Currently, an SSI overpayment under $1000 can be automatically waived if the claimant just requests it. I understand that if a person appeals the overpayment, the cost to fight the appeal may outweigh the actual overpayment and would not be worth it, BUT the government should not automatically waive these. Today alone, I did 14 administrative waivers totaling $353; not alot of money but it all adds up! And this was only one batch submitted a few days ago--14! If an overpayment is $8.00, (which is one amount I did today), you can't tell me that can't be paid back, even from someone on SSI. Every cent counts for the government to save money.
