I propose that the government eliminate the Emergency Drug Caches that are stored in may facilities. In our site alone there are millions of dollars of product that sits until it is outdated and then replaced. Most product is assayed and the original expiration date is extended several times before it is taken out of the Cache. After that occurs, the manufacturer will not issue credit because the product is too old. Every year many pallets of items are sent to be destroyed and this strikes me as an enormous waste.
We spend many dollars and man hours maintaining these supplies that I think could be put to much better use. Additionally they take up a huge footprint within our medical center, which is strapped for space.
I think would much rather see an agreement made with a large drug distributor that we could activate in the event of a disaster requiring large amounts of drug.
