Instead of just having "self" and "family" change the pricing structure to "self", "self +1", "self + 2" and so on for each additional person added to a policy. Private employers have realized the inherent lack of fairness in pricing insurance policies as "self" and "family" only. Insureds without children (including insurable dependents) or with only one or two children are subsidizing those with multiple children/insurable dependents. The fact is, on average larger families will consume more healthcare strictly based on the number of people in the household. Smaller families will, on average, consume less. It is unfair to ask smaller families to pay the same premiums as larger families when the larger families are consuming far more resources. We need to move to a tiered premium scale. The more people you add, the more you should pay for coverage.
