Department of the Treasury

Airline Baggage Fee Elimination

The United States government should restrict employees from checking bags on airline flights. For practicality purposes, the restriction could be placed on business travel lasting less than 4 days. As a goodwill gesture, employees that travel extensively with their jobs could be given a "carry-on" sized suit case. This one-time expense would be repaid with the baggage fee savings on just one round trip flight. Afterward, the government would stand to save at least $50 per round trip flight per employee.
