The current disability system rewards Veterans for being disabled. The more disabled a Veteran is - the more money the Veteran gets. The disability system should be based on rewarding Veterans for getting more ability. Currently a disabled Veteran can receive disability benefits from 3 agencies - VA, DOD, and Social Security. Need to overhaul the disability payment systems to ensure that the right amount of payment is provided which is difficult since we have 3 agencies responsible to address the payments for our veterans. There is currently a serious gap of care between DOD and VA. The DOD provides outstanding combat casualty care - however the DOD is having challenges and spending a lot of money providing care once the wounded warrior returns to the united states to continue care. Recommend to schedule, process, and manage virtually (via “Virtual Docket”) all Veterans hearings that are requested before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA). Currently the BVA processes over 18,500 hearings annually. The anticipated cost saving for the government is an estimate three million dollars. Why are we not using the US Postal Service?
Why are we using UPS and FedEx to ship packages, when we have the postal service that is perfectly capable to handle our needs?
Not only will using the US Postal Service save the government money, but I believe that the US Postal Service will do an even better job than their commercial competitors that we are currently using.
Recommend that every government printer is defaulted or set (by respective IT offices) to print double sided. This will provide the government an instantaneous savings – a 50% cost savings of all the paper we use.
