I went to school at U of H in Houston. As a student, I had to complete several interships at local agencies. Not only is it good experience for the intern, but the company (SSA) doesn't have to pay out any salaries or benefits. Utilizing college level interns would not only free up CR's and SR's to do more complex duties, but the agency would save on hiring and long periods of training for new employees. We interview an average of 20-30 claimants per day for the sole purpose of getting a denial letter for SSI and Medicare to get a Harris County Gold Card(indigent medical Services) We can either train the HCHD to make the determination themselves. Or outsource an employee from SSA to travel from 3 HCHD hospitals and several key clinics to make determination on the spot. That would allieviate the waiting time in our local ...more »
We issue checks to hundreds of New US Citizens over 65 that have never worked in the US. If their family brings them to the US then they should be responsible to care for their aging family members with their own funds. It is unfair to those who were born in the US.
