Way too many attorney web-sites are designed to look like the SSA official web-site. Claimant's hit a button and start their process with an attorney when in fact they were merely trying to get to ssa.gov. Eliminate the right of attorney's to use any logo that looks remotely like the SSA logo. Raise the number of years (to 15 or 20) a couple must be married in order to receive benefits off their spouse's number. It is ridiculous to have 3 or 4 former spouses all drawing off the same soc sec number.
Eliminate it completely. Funeral homes inflate their costs in order to secure the benefit from the bereaved family member. Eliminating this program also reduces the number of phone calls & office visits from family members seeking their "entitlement" rights.
Reduce all back pay owed to all SSA recipients to no more than 6 months worth of benefits. This would eliminate the need for dedicated accounts and would also eliminate using T6 claims representatives as account police officers and accountants. Eliminate Disabled Adult Child claims completely.
Put a time limit on back pay of 6 months and 6 months only. AUX CHD and Disabled Adult Child claims are paying thousand & thousands of dollars as are ALJ cases going back 2 or more years. Attorneys do nothing but SSA work based on the 25% or $6000.00 fees they can attach themselves to. A 6-month window on back pay is cost effective for the SSA and the tax payers.
Treat each person, married or not, as an individual claim. The paperwork and time generated when T16 claims reps do couple's claims costs more in man hours than the difference between individual SSIDI rates and couples rates. Average time spent doing and undoing all the couples claim work = 5 hours on just one claim.
