OPM should create a policy to allow US Federal workers to wear Agency Logoed or department store brand Polo shirts or even wear short sleeve button down department store brand shirts i.e. Cubano, Hawaiian, business casual, etc. This can be a healthy measure to keep employees from overheating as well as financial prudence to not spend money on added HVAC costs. US Congress should offer tax breaks or the addition of miscellaneous expenses to US Citizens and businesses for leasing or buying Solar Panels, Wind-Mills, Bio-Diesel, or Geo-thermal system to offset their electricity power costs and reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. Switch out the Federal and State fleet of combustible vehicles to Small or Mid-size Hybrid vehicles, immediately. The amount of money saved from this implementation would reduce unnecessary Govt. expenditures. Allot of fuel is burned while vehicles are at idle, and when the Air Conditioning, heating unit, or defrost are in operation. Re-align & Rename Department of Homeland Security's Customs Border Protection & Customs Border Patrol as well as acquire Transportation Safety Administration's T.S.A. Officers. Rename Customs Border Protection to US Customs with two Bureaus under it, US Customs and US Customs Security. Retrofit all Federal & State building and facilities, as well as Commercial Businesses building and facilities with Leased or bought Solar Panels where possible (style of rooftop permitting). The energy gained would greatly reduce the spending budget for utility costs i.e. electricity for HVAC systems (hot water heater), lights, security systems.
All US Agencies, Department and Offices as well as the State Government, should mandate the use of the power save or hibernation options for computer (chip) based business equipment; particularly when the office equipment is not in use. For computers & laptops with Microsoft Operating Systems; this measure can be configured by the Tech Support office or team. This measure would add millions of dollars back to the federal ...more »
