The federal government required buildings to set thermostats at 78F for cooling and 65F for heating during the energy crisis in the 1970s. We have an energy and fiscal crisis far worse now. The congress should mandate that all federal buildings return to these settings.
Many federal agencies pay hundreds of dollars each month to lease vehicles that are seldom used. It would be more cost effective to eliminate many of these vehicles by paying mileage to employees to use their private vehicles. Most people are more comfortable in their own vehicles, and are likely to be safer drivers in their cars. If an employee does not want to use their vehicle, inexpensive rentals can be obtained.
