The ideas tagged “parsimony”, inspired me to write the following: Let’s say that out of the more than 170 departments and agencies listed on this site, it was determined that one was not necessary, not constitutional, or suchlike. Let’s say that agency/department was eliminated and the employees of that agency/department were offered a position (let’s call them “X Agents”) to seek out wasteful spending throughout government ...more »
There are plenty of "what to do" and "how to do it" ideas. Had the big ticket items of the 2009 SAVE and 2010 SAVE campaigns been implemented, or if the current 2011 SAVE ideas were used immediately to lower spending and inefficiencies -- today's debt ceiling debate would not be needed. It is no longer a question of 'what' or 'how', but a need to know that the 'when' is past due -- act now and don't stop selecting ideas ...more »
All time spent by employees performing work-related activities that employers suffer or permit is work time, whether on premises or not and whether required or not -- according to the ruling of Permit to Suffer. This ruling should be relaxed so that an employee has the freedom to volunteer services to benefit the government and taxpayers in a variety of ways including driving without reimbursement.
Save a billion dollars each day by having the United States Department of Defense only defend the US within the US.
My position requires an average of 70 to 80 hours of work per week. The government recoups considerably more than the cost of paying my overtime by charging private industries an hourly rate for my essential services, and therefore there is no incentive for the government to be concerned about my life/work balance, safety and health, or inefficiencies of work due to excessively long hours. Allowing early retirement ...more »
With the official motto of the United States being "In God we trust", prayer would be in order. James 5:16 says "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."
Treat the current debt ceiling as an amount that cannot be exceeded, basically like a debt ceiling.
Please Mr. President, remain vigilant as you were when you voted against raising the debt limit while you were in Congress. Spending less saves money.
I recently went to a training session at a cost of several thousand dollars per person, and the training was still in the development stages. I believe huge efficiencies and savings (both personal and monetarily) could have been realized if the quick reference guide, or DVD, or another method was simply sent to me with no personal travel involved. In this solitary case, millions of dollars could have been saved.
Recognize that POV travel is less expensive than GOV travel, and reimburse appropriately. A new AAA study shows the cost to own and operate a sedan rose nearly 2 cents a mile to 58.5 cents per mile. As a high-mileage driver the government had been reimbursing me (to use my POV for government business) 19 cents per mile, which is down from the 28.5 cents per mile that was reimbursed in prior years (while actual costs have ...more »
The 2011 SAVE Award (judges/moderators) should have the prerogative to also choose COMMENTS as "winning ideas". And, based on merit of both useful ideas and comments, give time-off awards.
I am presently reimbursed at 51 cents per mile to use of my privately owned automobile and would like to instead sometimes be reimbursed at 10 cents per mile to use my privately owned bicycle. Add bicycles to the list of reimbursable mileage rates or otherwise fund its use. My bike, tires, maintenance, and riding gear have costs, yet i reduce the higher societal costs of fuel demand, traffic control, pollution, road maintenance, ...more »
