Save paper (extra copies for VSOs)

Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) receive copies of correspondence that is sent to the veteran by the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). With the move toward transparency in government the VSOs have been granted access to VBA computer systems that contain copies of these correspondence letters. In a recent VSO briefing to the Seattle Regional Office the VSO representative informed us that they don't keep the... more »

Veterans Eligibility; BETTER WEED OUT & FLAG INELIGIBLE Pts

We need rigorous training for frontline staff determining eligibility for health & other benefits. The VA has strict procedures for determining eligibility including what documents are acceptible. However, at least in our VISN (12), review of eligibility seems to indicate sloppy procedures. E.g. 1 pt alone who is NOT EVEN A VET was seen at least as early as 1997 on a HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY status. Once in the system,... more »

VA Benefits

Compensation paid to veterans should be dependent on salary like other entitlement programs. The more money you make, the less you get from the VA even if you are disabled. We have Bureau of Prisons staff earning $50,000+ as Correctional Officers and collecting $500 - $600 checks a month from the VA for PSTD symptoms. As a fellow veteran, I can't help to think they are scamming the system. If you can work a full time... more »

Cut Bonuses

An across the board freeze on Federal Government production and other bonuses should be implemented immediately. If most government programs that deliver benefits are backlogged, why are we still awarding bonuses to Federal Employees? For example,Veterans who receive compensation benefits for service connected disabilities have not had a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in many years; Federal Employees at the Veterans... more »

Printing VA Form 21-0781 front to back

My idea to save paper by printing VA Form 21-0781 front to back is not new. I sent my idea to the Mapd Suggestion Mailbox on 8/31/09. I received a reply on 9/29/09 that the development group in Hines reported that this particular jetform was not designed to print front to back but they were in the process of re-platforming the process by which our forms are generated in Mapd, so they couldn't request any updates until... more »

Eliminate Backlogs of SSA and VA Disability Appeal Claims

On the SSA Web Site, it states that it takes between 3 to 5 months to receive an initial SSA disability decision. On the VA Web Site, it states that it takes up to 6 months to receive an initial VA disability decision. SSA Appeals take 2 or more years at OHA. VA Appeals take 3 or more years at the BVA. Although initial disability processing times have improved over recent years due to Automation including Electronic... more »

Give Veterans the choice to receive notices via mail or email

When a Veteran applies for benefits, give them the option of receiving notices via email or "snail mail". This would save a ton of money in printing, mailing, and labor. If the Veteran wants a paper copy, he/she is perfectly capable of printing the email. I am a Veteran working at a Regional Office, I am part of the VR&E Program, and I still receive mail at my home. It is such a waste when, at the very least, it could... more »

Feeding America

Consider use of required art funding to plant use and native plants along side federal highways, buildings, and infrastructure. It currently costs the federal governement millions of dollars to "beautify" federal infrastructure that has to be supported and maintained. Make the "beautification" come through art dollars to create renewable and edible landscaping. Local entities can utilize the fresh results to feed the... more »
