Save unnecessary postage costs

The USPS automatically sends notification of forwarding address to the Social Security Administration on Social Security and SSI Checks mailed out. However the Social Security Administration is unable to do anything with the notification of forwaring address because the checks no longer have a Social Security Number on them to identify the person who has a change of address. The USPS charges for each forwarding address ...more »

Anonymous Interviews for all jobs- SAVE EEOC COMPLAINTS!

Too often high-ranking officials choose those most like them for promotions and unfortunately discriminate against more qualified minorities. Perhaps it is time for others outside the region to choose who to promote through anonymous interviews, thus race and ethnicity are not a part of the hiring decision. Such methods are used when submitting dissertations for doctorate degrees. The dissertation is not judged by "who" ...more »

Crack down on Fraud

We received a detailed letter that is apparently widely passed around in prisons, the letter essentially provides detailed instructions on how to file for SSI/RSDI after getting out of jail/prison. It provides for a very "assured" way of getting in by successfully faking mental disorders. After carefully reviewing the instructions we determined that in fact if followed properly, anyone following the instructions could ...more »

Please address concerns about management abuse

There are various examples where employees try to seek out assistance in order to alleviate very stressful situations with innapropriate management. Sometimes it is discrimation, other times is bulling, other times is just an issue with personality conflict or simply management acting innapropriately at work. If the agency continues to "brush" off these complaints by dismissing them quickly at the EEO levels, they are ...more »

Instant Online Benefit Verifications for 19.3 Million Requestors

SSA should set up an instant online benefit verification process whereby the client accesses a secure SSA website and provides identifying information and their request (monthly/annual benefit amount). If the ID information matches SSA's records, the benefits are verified instantly, on screen. No wait, no paper, no postage. Also much improved public service to a very large number of the public (SSA provided 19.3 million ...more »

Make all of SSA's Electronic/PDF Materials Available in eMailer

SSA has many public information materials that are produced in huge quantities and shipped all over the country (at significant costs). Some of this material is available in pdf format on SSA's web site but it's not easy to access just the one or two items a customer may need. SSA uses a program named "eMailer" that enables our employees to email a few of these materials. SSA should make all of its electronic pamphlets, ...more »

Stop Withholding Attorney Fees Unless Electronic Process is Used

SSA withholds fees from claimant benefits for attorneys, a convenience for the attorneys who then don't have to bill and collect their fees from their clients. SSA offers an electronic alternative to the traditional paper process of filing for benefits and for the appeals process. The electronic process is much more efficient than the old paper process but its use is optional for attorneys. To improve service and save ...more »

Stop Issuing Replacement Social Security Number Cards

Once evidence and application for a new social number card is submitted and processed issue the card once. After that, persons will rely on direct electronic verification, authenticating themselves with the same information SSA required for the original card issuance. Eliminating the replacement card process will improve service to the public (no need to gather evidence and visit social security offices) and save enormous ...more »

SSA Disability $ Allocated For Mandatory Mental Health Treatment

With regard to disability benefits (Title 2 and Title 16) in mental health cases, a portion of the funds should be allocated to a local mental health facility where the person can receive adequate mental health treatment. Often times the disable person does not seek treatment with awarded benefits or parents do not seek treatment for their children. This course of action will insure that the disable individual receives ...more »

Consolidate HQ Components for BIG Savings

The Office of International Programs as an example has a staff of 24 with 40% management. Half of the group can be moved to OISP to work with the domestic policy and the other half to OIO (Office of International Operations). There are various other components that can also be consolidated to save resources and unnecessary management.

FRAUDULENT TRAVEL CLAIMS

When employees travel for business they should be fully aware of the regulation and follow it verbatim. I have seen too many situations where an employee is abusing the system because they are not being looked at closely enough (the vouchers). If they know that they are to submit a mapquest of everywhere they went and that their vouchers would be looked over with a fine tooth comb, they would be less likely to file ...more »

Rate management from the bottom up

It is rare that incompetent or abusive management are removed. Typically they are only changed or removed after they do something where the agency has to step in to clean up. If employees had the opportunity to report these individuals while the negative behavior is occurring, the agency would save itself from having to clean up after them later, and would make for a better work force. As an example, there were senior ...more »

BOP Make it easier to work with other agencies and depts.

There are 5 major government agencies located within 35 miles of our institution. BOP, Dept of agriculture, Forest Service (is that Dept of Ag too?), Park Service (or is it this one in dept of AG), and Social Security. The paperwork to work with each agency is almost prohibitive, along with staff from each one not wanting to deal with it as well. Particularly when it comes to recycling. If they all consolidated their ...more »
