Orientation

Each new employee receives approximately 15 pounds of paper at orientation when they are hired by the federal government. All the information that is given to employees at orientation is available through the Dept. of Veteran Affairs Intranet website. It's redundant and wasteful to hand out all the paperwork that's available electronically.

Social Security Administration

Reduce paper usage by making two-sided printing the default

Our office and thousands of other offices in the Social Security Administration waste immense amounts of paper by printing on one side of sheets of paper instead of printing on two sides. Offices should make their printers default to printing on two sides and should train office personnel to only use one-sided printing when necessary to further the agency's goals.

Save trees

Both sides of the printing paper should be used during printing.

During audits and inspections, Inspectors should request double sided printed copies of documents from the firms, as exhibits . It will not only save hundreds of trees, but will also save thousands in mailing costs when the exhibits are mailed domestically and/or internationally.
