Parsimony: Use X Agents to Achieve Debt Retirement

The ideas tagged “parsimony”, inspired me to write the following: Let’s say that out of the more than 170 departments and agencies listed on this site, it was determined that one was not necessary, not constitutional, or suchlike. Let’s say that agency/department was eliminated and the employees of that agency/department were offered a position (let’s call them “X Agents”) to seek out wasteful spending throughout government ...more »

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later. We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing. We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government. ...more »

Adopt MANY of these suggestions

Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.

I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.

GOVs

I was a GS-5 when I was commuting to and from work an hour and a half one way. I understand that i took my job and that I knew that I would be living that far from work. I am a single mom of two and I wasnt going to pick my kids up and move them from where they grew up right away. What my point is, is that GS-12s and higher get take home vehicles...why? They only live 20 min away 90% of them. If I could afford $450 in ...more »

Zero Tolerance for Fraud

The GAO estimates $17 BILLION dollars of improper Medicare payments each year. The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays out $4.6 BILLION in improper and fraudulent benefits annually. The Department of Veterans Affairs loses $800 MILLION annually on improper and fraudulent payments. And the FRAUD list goes on and on and on, totaling OVER $100 BILLION PER YEAR!!! 1ST...I suggest that we include the statement ...more »

Eliminate GSA

When a lower price is available from a source other than GSA , agencies should have the option to buy the product at the lower price. In many cases the products can be purchased locally which not only spurs the local economy but reduces shipping costs as well.

Old Schoool

Revert to the days when there was a gas/oil shortage. Have lights turned off when not needed, have unnecessary vehicle travel curtailed. Have instructors travel to ports instead of sending students/officers to schools. Post stickers on light switches that tell personnel to turne lights off when not needed. There is too much waste because people are not educated to the ways of the past.

Saving on training

I work for the Social Security Administration ODAR. November 2010 I was required to go to St Louis for training related to my new position as a Senior Case Technician. The training was good, but could have been successfully completed at my local office. It cost the government about $2000 to send me to St Louis; there were approximately 50 people in my class. Granted, there were employees in the class that did not ...more »

better incentives to reduce deficit

This is Warren Buffets idea but we should pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection. In addtion the balanced budget proposal being debated should include the election ineligibillty clause.

These align the nations interests with the personal interests of members of congress and could save trillions of dollars.

Take Home Vehicle

All Special Agent and Management have a take home vehicle. There are some individuals that travel as much as 160 miles (80 miles one way) a day in an SUV that get about 15 mpg. That’s an expensive cost to the government. Solution limit the distance a person can live from the job that has a take home vehicle. And if they choose to live outside that distance, make them pay the difference in the fuel cost. This would ...more »

Less Government

The way to get this economy going again is to downsize. We have to many government programs that appear to be ideological passion projects than vital programs to help out economy. By lowering spending and allowing the private sector to create jobs will give the economy the needed boast it needs to bring this great nation out of this recession.

Are you really listening to us?

Many times the suggestion has been made to stop the end-of-year spending to use up money left in the budget, and to put this money back in the "pot" or apply it to the next year's budget. This suggestion would save MILLIONS - not the paltry amount saved by stopping mailing of a publication. Are you really listening to our ideas or just pacifying us by making us think you really care about wasteful spending?

Now Adopt These Ideas

There are plenty of "what to do" and "how to do it" ideas. Had the big ticket items of the 2009 SAVE and 2010 SAVE campaigns been implemented, or if the current 2011 SAVE ideas were used immediately to lower spending and inefficiencies -- today's debt ceiling debate would not be needed. It is no longer a question of 'what' or 'how', but a need to know that the 'when' is past due -- act now and don't stop selecting ideas ...more »

Stop the ethnic month and have We Love you for who you are month

It seems like every month there is some ethnic month function going on. Flyers and pictures go up. Luncheons and parties are arranged. Do we really need to have a party for every ethnic group. Can we just narrow it down to one "We Love you for who you are month" that month everyone can have lunch together and talk about their heritage. How much time and money would be saved.
