Instant Online Benefit Verifications for 19.3 Million Requestors

SSA should set up an instant online benefit verification process whereby the client accesses a secure SSA website and provides identifying information and their request (monthly/annual benefit amount). If the ID information matches SSA's records, the benefits are verified instantly, on screen. No wait, no paper, no postage. Also much improved public service to a very large number of the public (SSA provided 19.3 million... more »

Journals / Periodicals

Paper copies of Journals such as "U. S. Medicine" and "Federal Practitioner" are automatically distributed to all physicians employed by the government. Making these Journals available online instead of mailing paper copies could save a lot money. I suspect that a lot of physicians may not even read these journals. I believe that a lot of these journals go directly to the recycle bin or trash.

Bring in online tutorials/courses

Every year federal government employees are taking many work related courses. These courses are normally given by contractors. For many courses employees have to go out of his/her office to a local or distant site. A significant amount of funds and time can be saved if appropriate courses/tutorials are developed for online training. Once a course is developed it can be changed if new rules and or ideas are to be incorporated... more »

Intra-agency Publications

Every quarter the SSA employees publish Oasis, a magazine distributed internally for the employees of the Social Security Administration. It is packed with information on the changes within the organization; however, this magazine could be published via the intranet instead of spending the money to print, ship, and distribute the magazine amongst the employees. I don't know if other agency have such publications, but... more »

STOP Paper Disability Applications/Appeals From Authorized Reps!

Every Authorized Representative has Internet Access. Submitting paper Disability applications/appeals take longer to process and are more difficult to control vs. filing those online. Authorized Reps are paid, they are not unpaid. Many authorized reps file by paper because they are operating on pure volume vs. quality. While SSA is focusing on more quality (read tranparent) they are causing us to waste time, resources,... more »

Combine Internet Disability Application with Disability Report!

When Someone currently fills out the Disability Application online or the Disability Report, rarely do they file and submit the same day. If the website did not give them the option to do one or the other but made it into one application this would reduce phone calls, letters, along with wasted time and resources. Not only that many attorneys will only submit the Application and will mail or fax the Adult disabilty report... more »

In-residence SOS as the exception rather than the norm

My husband and I would like to propose that the USAF transition Squadron Officer School (SOS) to a completely on-line, interactive course similar to the online Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) master's degree course. We are not suggesting "just" an SOS correspondence course, but a course with student-student and student-teacher interaction, possibly even integrating face-to-face video teleconferences to achieve certain... more »

Combine Online Systems (Websites) Used by Federal Employees

We use over 10 separate online systems to take care of daily administrative tasks, and I believe that we should combine them all into one website, similar to how Google lets you switch between e-mail, calendar, documents, photos, etc. with a simple mouse click. Combining all these systems into one system and hosting it on a centralized server would take advantage of economies of scale, greatly reducing the electricity,... more »

Online IRS account

I don't understand why I am mailing in documents that the IRS has already received from my banks, jobs, and etc. Why not allow individuals and companies to login to their account and see what documents the IRS has already received? Then permit them to upload the documents that are needed. Why mail in a document the IRS already has?

Efficient accurate business card ordering

EPA has an online business card ordering system that is great- you type in your info, you see what the cards will look like when they are printed, and then you can route it to your boss for approval. But my regional office (EPA Region 9) doesn't use it. Instead, we use paper forms, which later must be transcribed by hand. It takes up to 3 months to actually get your business cards (the ordering is only done once per... more »

End Production and Distribution of OLE softback Manuals

DOJ's Office of Legal Education produces very authoritative and helpful manuals in a variety of subject matter areas for prosecutors/trial attorneys. They then update, produce and mail thousands of these books every year to prosecutors across the country who don't even read them because a lot of material is online in USABOOK and other online DOJ resources. These books particularly helpful pre-trial/investigation stage... more »

Public online FOIA

Provide an online system that allows the public access to our releasable documents. This would be simialr to the ADAMs database the Nuclear regulatory Agency operates and the public document database operated by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Allowing the public access to documents will reduce the time and cost it takes to respond to FOIAs, supports government transparency initiative, allows the... more »
