DOD - How to Standardize Work Common to All Services

Others have suggested we standardize processes and applications across DOD, such as software (4166), freeware (74), flash drives (1664), and business processes (6510). There is so much duplication across DOD on basic types of work, such as environmental and facility management, civilian personnel systems, accounting, emergency management, GeoBase, medical services, IT/communication software, depot/logistics systems, ...more »

GOING GREEN

With our world today, our natural resources are diminishing, and we are trying to do what we can to reserve them. Solar panels could be built, and save money spent on energy throughout time. Small solar panels can power small things throughout our facilities, if the government does not want to spend millions on huge solar panels. A great way to promote going green could be installing solar panels on the GEMS (Green Environmental ...more »

Do Not Just Oblige US – Employ More of These Ideas

It is very nice that Trudy Givens got to meet the President and now the Fed Gov is going paperless, but there are other good ideas being brought to your attention. More than one of these suggestions should be reviewed, studied and implemented. Waste, fraud and abuse are being identified and should be acted upon. The Federal Government is a massive burden that ‘we the people’ are having difficulty supporting and things ...more »

Converting Unused Sick Leave to Annual Leave

Federal employees should have the ability to convert unused sick leave accrual to annual leave. Employees should be mandated to carry a minimum balance of unused sick leave before they would be able to convert furture hours into annual leave. For instance: an employee must have 240 hours of accrued sick leave in order to convert future hours. Conversion could be a two hour or three hour of sick leave for one hour ...more »

TAX POLITICAL FINANCE COMMITTEES

POLITICAL CAMPAIGN FUNDS SHOULD BE TAXED LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS SO THAT POLITICIAN WOULD UNDERSTAND WHAT RUNNING A BUSINESS IS LIKE. WHAT A BURDEN PAYING TAXES IS ON A BUSINESS. HOW THE FIRST 25 OR 30% OF THE FUNDS RAISED IS NOT FOR THEIR USE BUT GOES TO THE GOVERNMENT. A TAX ON CAMPAIGN FUNDS WOULD BE A GREAT EDUCATIONAL TOOL FOR EVERY POLITICIAN AND POLITICAL WANT-A-BE.

Reduce Printing Through Visibility and Accountability

The US Government wastes millions of dollars on unnecessary printing by Federal employees. Not only are paper, toner, and printer maintenance expensive, but storage, destruction, and time searching through hard-copies costs money. We need to use the print servers to track and report usage by user/branch/department/command. By shining a light on current and historical usage, users will adjust their habits and save money. ...more »

Energy Audit Measures Could Save $5 billion

Energy Audits are complete for a large number of federal facilities. These energy audits produced numerous recommendations that can produce savings at a rapid rate. Some of these measures will pay for themselves in less than a year and begin saving money after that point and far into the future. All measures with a payback of less than five years should be implemented immediately. These energy savings measures will ...more »

Criminalize vote bartering and ex parte legislative discussions.

When a piece of legislation is brought before a legislative body (either the House or the Senate), it is nothing short of bribery to vote swap (i.e., I'll vote for your bill if you vote for mine; or I'll vote for your bill if you give my district X dollars via an unrelated amendment). Two rules could fix this: 1) No off-the-record conversations about pending legislation (ex parte communication). It is simply unfair ...more »

Balance the Budget.

If the Presdient pledged to veto every unbalanced budget, and followed through with this threat for two terms... or Congress could simply pass a balanced budget bill, maybe for only ten years just to see how it works. However, it is not in any individual legislator's interest to balance the budget. This is the classic "tragedy of the commons" secnario where we all see that conservation is necessary, but each person ...more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing) We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay ...more »

Education

Maybe if we made more of a commitment such as; funding, programs, research, improvement/quality, dedication, out reach, promoting, rewarding, sponsored competitions, awards, etc, we might be able to get some smart kids to become smart adults and fix some of these issues we have now.
