Reduce/ Eliminate the National Debt - Not so Common Sense

My idea is for the "powers that be" to develop the ability for any monies left in the budget at the end of the year to be applied directly to the National Debt. Meaning that a local office can press a button and the monies go directly to the National Debt, they are not funneled back to parent agencies where the monies will be spent so they don't loose out the following year. Additionally I would like to add that being ...more »

Eliminate BATFE

Eliminate BATFE and roll their duties and agents over to the FBI. It would eliminate a lot of unnecessary managerial positions and steamline investigations.

Law Enforcement pay and retirement only for those who deserve it

I suggest that Law Enforcment pay and retirement for the FBOP is only given to those staff who spend the majority of their shift (time) inside the fence during their career. The staff that work in the front offices, regional offices, and central offices should only get it if they spent more than 50% of their career working inside the fence at a prison or carries a weapon more than 50% of their career. Considering the ...more »

DOJ Restitution Cases

Change Court House instructions to indicate at minimum that the Account Name, SSN, Docket Nr and/or Case Nr be indicated on EVERY CHECK that is mailed under the Criminal Restituion process to stop payments from being listed as unknown and making more work that is costly trying to determine where the payments can be applied. Many of these checks are over $10,000 and we do not want to missapply such payments

End Production and Distribution of OLE softback Manuals

DOJ's Office of Legal Education produces very authoritative and helpful manuals in a variety of subject matter areas for prosecutors/trial attorneys. They then update, produce and mail thousands of these books every year to prosecutors across the country who don't even read them because a lot of material is online in USABOOK and other online DOJ resources. These books particularly helpful pre-trial/investigation stage ...more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment. There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted. Mandate that ...more »

Require that all OWCP claimants submit to drug test

The federal government supposedly has a drug free workplace. However, if an employee gets hurt, they are not required to submit to a drug screen like the majority of the private industry requires. The federal government should not pay benefits to someone who is using illicit drugs on the job.

Consolidation of CBP and TSA Bonded Facility and Cargo Operation

Prior to the creation of the DHS, the former US Customs Service was the primary entity for inspecting inbound and outbound foreign cargo at US International airports as well as compliance and control of related bonded facilities. The events of September 11, 2001 resulted in the creation of DHS as well as the TSA with the consolidation of the Customs Service into CBP. Since 2001 the TSA has grown and expanded in mission ...more »

40 hour work week in 4 days

I recommend that all federal agencies would work 4 days 10 hours each. This way the government will have a total of 3 days without using the resources it takes to run the buildings, i.e. electric, water usage, cooling/heating, etc.

Stop prosecuting whistleblowers

The DOJ should stop prosecuting legitimate whistleblowers like Thomas Drake and others. The costs associated with this are significant considering all of the lawyers involved. Also it discourages efforts like this site that are trying to save money

Consolidate DHS Seized Property Operations

Currently; Border Patrol, CBP, FPS, ICE, TSA and the US Coast Guard have their own facilities, policy, processes, and specialist personnel to handle seized property and contraband. By consolidating all of these facilities and processes into one DHS seized property system, cost savings and efficiency will occur. Why does ICE need a seized property vault in the same geographical location as CBP? Consolidate these facilities ...more »
