Eliminate international support programs and travel except by the President and heads of State.
Why does a completely tax exempt organization voluntarily throw away billions of dollars by paying taxes on travel? I travel a lot for the Navy and detest that taxes for TDY travel expenses are charged to my government credit card. Though the Government Treasury will get the taxes back, for the Navy and the Program Office (PMA), those funds are lost. Those lost and unrecoverable funds, which can quickly add up to billions,... more »
Too often high-ranking officials choose those most like them for promotions and unfortunately discriminate against more qualified minorities. Perhaps it is time for others outside the region to choose who to promote through anonymous interviews, thus race and ethnicity are not a part of the hiring decision. Such methods are used when submitting dissertations for doctorate degrees. The dissertation is not judged by "who"... more »
Heightened awareness of anemia will empower federal employees with this condition to seek and receive appropriate treatment; this, in turn, will improve the efficiency and quality of their work. It stands to reason that fatigued workers are not as productive or efficient as they could be. Fatigue is the most common symptom of anemia, which is a condition where the blood lacks sufficient red blood cells or the red... more »
It is a given that CPUs need to be replaced every so often to accommodate software upgrades and improve processing speeds. (Perhaps it is true that some agencies, such as SSA, replace them too frequently, but that is the subject of other SAVE Award ideas so I will not get into that here.) However, computer monitors have longer life cycles and so whenever agencies do a workstation replacement they should not simply replace... more »
There are various examples where employees try to seek out assistance in order to alleviate very stressful situations with innapropriate management. Sometimes it is discrimation, other times is bulling, other times is just an issue with personality conflict or simply management acting innapropriately at work. If the agency continues to "brush" off these complaints by dismissing them quickly at the EEO levels, they are... more »
All Regional and Area Office Site Visits should be conducted by teleconferencing. The time spent travelling, in additional to the mileage and hotels required, cost the Federal Government millions of dollars yearly. Videoteleconferencing is a very effective method of communication and is commonly used in the private sector. The advances in automation now allow ROs and Area Offices to see the same listings and documents... more »
The Federal Government should not hire employees just because they meet a quota.
I've seen too many employees hired to meet a targeted category, who were totally unable to do the job. Some were eventually terminated, some still working.
By getting the best qualified candidates, we would cut out the waste in money used to train, and give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.
There is a new protocol that was passed about 5 yrs.ago to screen every vet at age 65 to make sure there was no AAA(Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm). The provider will see an alert to order the exam at age 65,however,there are many, many duplicate orders for this test being submitted. We need an alert to verify this exam had alreay been completed so as to prevent many duplications,at age 66,67,68,etc.Everytime the vet sees a... more »
These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later. We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing. We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government.... more »
Blackberry Replacement Voucher Program Replace Government Provided Blackberries and Cell Phones with Vouchers Many government employees and contractors are provided Blackberries to fulfill their job tasks. However, most also have a personal cell-phone as well. My proposal would be to give government employees and contractors a cash voucher to use their own personal smart-phones, Blackberries, iPhones, Androids instead... more »
USAJOBS.GOV should be revamped.
Job applicants should not only receive the confirmation that the resume/application were sent, applicants should also be provided feedback from the HR reviewer.
The HR communication would prevent the necessity of follow-ups and simplify the Federal Government job application process, saving the Federal Government millions of dollars.
Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.
I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.
Many government agencys have duplicative IT development efforts going on within their Agency because the Agency's CIO does not have the authority or responsibility to oversee all Agency IT development efforts. Make each Agency's CIO responsible for all IT development within the Agency. The CIO would receive all the Agency's IT funding. All IT efforts would have to be approved through the Agency's IT Configuration Control... more »
Studies have shown that poor relationships often lead to poor performance. Create seminars to help employees enhance their relationship skills (e.g. conflict management, how to foster positive relationships, etc.). This could be taught by federally employed mental health professionals at little or no cost.
