Modify SSA hours to a 4 day, 10 hour workday. Allows more hours for public access, and prevents the expenditures on the 5th day which is currently used.
A lot of walkin traffic has to deal with getting a TPQY printout for other entitlement programs. Automate this system to reduce paper expenditures and time.
A lot of traffic with the Social Security office has to do with getting replacement Social Security cards. Charge a nominal $1 fee for a replacement card. This will ensure more accountability.
Currently a disabled Veteran can receive disability benefits from 3 agencies - VA, DOD, and Social Security. Need to overhaul the disability payment systems to ensure that the right amount of payment is provided which is difficult since we have 3 agencies responsible to address the payments for our veterans. One of the largest burdens on Social Security each year is creating "Benefit Verification Letters" for citizens. They are used to verify things like benefit enrollment for purposes of state program eligibility, proof of income for loans, and even birthdate! Too often high-ranking officials choose those most like them for promotions and unfortunately discriminate against more qualified minorities. Perhaps it is time for others outside the region to choose who to promote through anonymous interviews, thus race and ethnicity are not a part of the hiring decision. It is my suggestion that individuals who opt to use our online password services be allowed to register their temporary password with a “live person” as an option in addition to the automated phone system and online option. It is my suggestion that all SSI programs be redesigned with more emphasizes placed on requirements after recipients have been granted a favorable decision. It is my suggestion that individuals who are awarded SSI disability based on alcohol and drug abuse be required to attend a specified number of treatment programs and possibly even subjected to random drug screens for a specified time frame. We should not be giving retroactive needs based benefits. Logically it makes no sense to give retroactive benefits for a program that is intended to meet CURRENT and basic needs. In addition, we could save agency time and money by not having to conduct pre-effectuation reviews. The demotivating value of an employee suggestion program with an historical adoption rate of 3% suggests that it's an expensive charade that's not taken seriously by employees or their agency.
Ending ineffective programs would save the public money (though probably not as much as higher suggestion adoption rates would save).
There are various examples where employees try to seek out assistance in order to alleviate very stressful situations with innapropriate management. NH and SSA Judges are confused by conflicting letters and inconsistent information. Judges reverse waiver decisions/denials due to poor communication.
