Complete Disability Payment Overhaul - Save Money Now!

Currently a disabled Veteran can receive disability benefits from 3 agencies - VA, DOD, and Social Security. Need to overhaul the disability payment systems to ensure that the right amount of payment is provided which is difficult since we have 3 agencies responsible to address the payments for our veterans. Why not only 1 agency - the VA manage all veterans disability payments. This will ensure Veterans receive accurate ...more »

Revamp Social Security Benefit Verification & Letter Process

One of the largest burdens on Social Security each year is creating "Benefit Verification Letters" for citizens. They are used to verify things like benefit enrollment for purposes of state program eligibility, proof of income for loans, and even birthdate! But due to the wide and undefined range of use, the agency will customize the letter to include whatever a citizen wants. The process is done in-person or by phone. ...more »

Disability Transitional Age Reform for Social Security benefits

As federal officials and lawmakers explore raising the retirement age in order to cut the federal deficit, consideration should also be given to raising the “transitional age” for disability purposes. Lawmakers and federal officials have emphasized adjusting the retirement age and delaying eligibility for SSA retirement benefits to cut the federal deficit. To my knowledge, no consideration has been given to adjusting ...more »

Anonymous Interviews for all jobs- SAVE EEOC COMPLAINTS!

Too often high-ranking officials choose those most like them for promotions and unfortunately discriminate against more qualified minorities. Perhaps it is time for others outside the region to choose who to promote through anonymous interviews, thus race and ethnicity are not a part of the hiring decision. Such methods are used when submitting dissertations for doctorate degrees. The dissertation is not judged by "who" ...more »

Password Services

It is my suggestion that individuals who opt to use our online password services be allowed to register their temporary password with a “live person” as an option in addition to the automated phone system and online option. This will assist or pacify frustration from the public, as some individuals are not “computer savvy” or have computer access and some individuals have distinctive voices that they had found difficult ...more »

Changes To SSI Program

It is my suggestion that all SSI programs be redesigned with more emphasizes placed on requirements after recipients have been granted a favorable decision. It is my suggestion that individuals who are awarded SSI disability based on alcohol and drug abuse be required to attend a specified number of treatment programs and possibly even subjected to random drug screens for a specified time frame. This option can attempt ...more »

Eliminate Retroactive SSI

We should not be giving retroactive needs based benefits. Logically it makes no sense to give retroactive benefits for a program that is intended to meet CURRENT and basic needs. In addition, we could save agency time and money by not having to conduct pre-effectuation reviews. It takes a lot of agency time and money to develop the income and resources and living arrangements for retroactive benefits. We have to control ...more »

Implement smarter workstation replacement policies

It is a given that CPUs need to be replaced every so often to accommodate software upgrades and improve processing speeds. (Perhaps it is true that some agencies, such as SSA, replace them too frequently, but that is the subject of other SAVE Award ideas so I will not get into that here.) However, computer monitors have longer life cycles and so whenever agencies do a workstation replacement they should not simply replace ...more »
