HEIGHTEN LEO EFFICIENCY/CONSOLIDATE UNDERUTILLIZED CBPO ENFORCEM

We can stream line overlapping law enforcement functions/jurisdictions, and save money, have a higher amount of productivity and utilization of resources,a stronger more defined mission, and a stronger more supportive Chain of Command adherant to the Criminal Law Enforcement mission. This will be accomplished by consolidating the criminal law enforcement functions of the underutillized, misappropriated "orphan" positions ...more »

Too Much Information Not Enough Communication

As government employees we receive hordes of information via e-mail from our own agencies that do not pertain to each and every member of the agency. I propose that we cut out extraneous information that is sent to everyone in a certain or specific email directory/organization. If the correspondence is for information only, at least allow us the opportunity to ‘unsubscribe’ from some of these directories. All important ...more »

Eliminate SSI overpayment administrative waivers

Currently, an SSI overpayment under $1000 can be automatically waived if the claimant just requests it. I understand that if a person appeals the overpayment, the cost to fight the appeal may outweigh the actual overpayment and would not be worth it, BUT the government should not automatically waive these. Today alone, I did 14 administrative waivers totaling $353; not alot of money but it all adds up! And this was ...more »

Eliminate Retroactive SSI

We should not be giving retroactive needs based benefits. Logically it makes no sense to give retroactive benefits for a program that is intended to meet CURRENT and basic needs. In addition, we could save agency time and money by not having to conduct pre-effectuation reviews. It takes a lot of agency time and money to develop the income and resources and living arrangements for retroactive benefits. We have to control ...more »

Implement smarter workstation replacement policies

It is a given that CPUs need to be replaced every so often to accommodate software upgrades and improve processing speeds. (Perhaps it is true that some agencies, such as SSA, replace them too frequently, but that is the subject of other SAVE Award ideas so I will not get into that here.) However, computer monitors have longer life cycles and so whenever agencies do a workstation replacement they should not simply replace ...more »

Implement BVAMC Beneficiary Travel Tool Nationally

Early in July I developed a beneficiary travel tool to expedite a task for myself and a colleague in calculating copious amounts of information on Beneficiary Travel mileage. Upon utilizing this tool, it became evident this simple tool could be used by other VA staff to more accurately complete beneficiary travel vouchers. The tool is a simple web based interface that tells the mileage between a Veteran’s residency ...more »

Use Both Sides of the Paper...Double Your Inventory!

Although we are trying to automate the Federal Government, there are still many times we have to use paper. When employees print, use duplex printing! When employees take notes, write on both sides! If the Agency distributes monthly Posters to hang up in the building, print 2 months at a time. Flip the poster over after the first month. When an employee gives a presentation, use the "white space" on each side of ...more »

Incentivize Employees to Save

Initiate a trial program to provide nominal bonuses to federal employees based on how much their organization saves on its annual budget. Implement the program with thresholds, so as long as an employee’s organizational unit saved 2% of their annual budget, employees would receive a 0.5% salary bonus. This program would likely have the most leverage on DOD acquisition programs, but would nonetheless help motivate employees ...more »

Feds SAVE, Congress Flails

After following the Congressional debates on solving our national debt crisis and reading over the ideas posted on SAVE, I have concluded I would rather have multiple SAVE ideas implemented than any proposed by Congress. Seems that Federal employees are better at tackling our national debt than elected officials.

Paperless Government - eLearning

The Government is in a movement in which we want to save paper, some call it a "Paperless Government". While we're working hard to "Go Green", we seem to be lacking on one department. Education. Education in the federal workforce uses tens of thousands sheets of paper each day. The expense tot he people, and more importantly to the Veterans is astronomical. I have personally used an entire box of paper for one training ...more »

Regional and Area Office Site Visits by Video Teleconferencing

All Regional and Area Office Site Visits should be conducted by teleconferencing. The time spent travelling, in additional to the mileage and hotels required, cost the Federal Government millions of dollars yearly. Videoteleconferencing is a very effective method of communication and is commonly used in the private sector. The advances in automation now allow ROs and Area Offices to see the same listings and documents ...more »

To eliminate the waste of taxpayer money government wide and run the federal benefit programs with more efficiency and save money: (1) Identify U.S. Federal Agencies programs that provide federal benefits, aid or entitlement programs.
