Wasting 500cc IV minibags - RN

We should eliminate hanging the 500cc minibags of normal saline when infusing an IV antibiotic, for patients that receive IV antibiotics daily or one time a new 500cc bag of NS is hung and changed daily. On most occasions not even 10CC of NS is being used and the unused NS gets thrown away. We already flush the PIV and PICC before and after with either 3ml or 10ml of NS so why are we even hanging the minibags. Why ...more »

This will be accomplished by consolidating the criminal law enforcement functions of the underutillized, misappropriated "orphan" positions ...more »

STOP THE INSANITY! Why Throw Away $$$ Billions???

Why does a completely tax exempt organization voluntarily throw away billions of dollars by paying taxes on travel? I travel a lot for the Navy and detest that taxes for TDY travel expenses are charged to my government credit card. Though the Government Treasury will get the taxes back, for the Navy and the Program Office (PMA), those funds are lost. Those lost and unrecoverable funds, which can quickly add up to billions, ...more »

Paper and toner use reduction

Our office, like many others sends a ton of or supply money on coping paper. Since we are headed toward being paperless, I am suggesting that for individuals with email addresses, we can give claimants the option of getting their copy of the application via mail or email. We could send this in encrypted emails if necessary or have a program that blocks out most or all of the Social Security Numbers for security purposes. ...more »

Implement smarter workstation replacement policies

It is a given that CPUs need to be replaced every so often to accommodate software upgrades and improve processing speeds. (Perhaps it is true that some agencies, such as SSA, replace them too frequently, but that is the subject of other SAVE Award ideas so I will not get into that here.) However, computer monitors have longer life cycles and so whenever agencies do a workstation replacement they should not simply replace ...more »

Use Both Sides of the Paper...Double Your Inventory!

Although we are trying to automate the Federal Government, there are still many times we have to use paper. When employees print, use duplex printing! When employees take notes, write on both sides! If the Agency distributes monthly Posters to hang up in the building, print 2 months at a time. Flip the poster over after the first month. When an employee gives a presentation, use the "white space" on each side of ...more »

Stop Printing Time Cards

Every 2 weeks, a time card spreadsheet is automatically printed for every civilian employee from the time & accounting software system used. They are distributed to each employee who fills them out, has their supervisor sign it, and then they are returned to the respective timekeeper. He inputs this information into the software system and then must keep the hard copy for 6 years. Going to a totally electronic process ...more »

Benefits via SSA

Reality is that the system for Social Security benefits is broken and abused. There needs to be an overhaul to restore the program to what the public perceives it as, or some similar resemblance. First and foremost is the SSI program, the more abused and costly since these recipients have never contributed. Children get benefits too easily as with a large rate of termination from age 18 evaluations. There needs to ...more »

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later. We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing. We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government. ...more »

Solar Roadways and Walkways

Solar Roadways are quiet and clean (ideal for military bases, eliminates unsightly powerlines, ideal for charging electric cars, can be used in remote areas, much less pollution). Also, production would create lots of green jobs. This idea can also be applied to sidewalks, walkways, playgrounds, parking lots, etc... They melt snow and ice eliminating lots of snow removal and they illuminate roads. It would be a great ...more »
