Revamp Social Security Benefit Verification & Letter Process

One of the largest burdens on Social Security each year is creating "Benefit Verification Letters" for citizens. They are used to verify things like benefit enrollment for purposes of state program eligibility, proof of income for loans, and even birthdate! But due to the wide and undefined range of use, the agency will customize the letter to include whatever a citizen wants. The process is done in-person or by phone. ...more »

SSA BENEFIT LETTERS

As an employee of SSA we get alot of clients that call each day for benefit verification letters. My idea is that we make the benefit verification letters open to the public via the ssa.gov website. This would cut down on paper, mailings as well as calls to the 800# for this information. The public would be able to access this information theirselves and at there own time and cost.

Allow Citizens to Print Replacement Social Security Cards Online

Every year, the Social Security Administration processes, prints, and issues tens of millions of replacement Social Security Cards. This costs the government untold printing / postage costs and places an enormous burden on both service representatives and citizens to visit their local office for a replacement. Instead of reissuing cards on security paper by postal mail, allow citizens to sign in online at SSA.gov and ...more »

Fax to Email - Save Millions in paper

Incoming faxes can be automatically turned into a .pdf and sent to an email account or department inbox for action. Between VA Education/Compensation and Pension/Veterans Service Centers and hospitals, this could save 15-20 million each year in paper and fax machine costs. If successful with the VA, other federal agencies could impliment the same.

Paperless Government - eLearning

The Government is in a movement in which we want to save paper, some call it a "Paperless Government". While we're working hard to "Go Green", we seem to be lacking on one department. Education. Education in the federal workforce uses tens of thousands sheets of paper each day. The expense tot he people, and more importantly to the Veterans is astronomical. I have personally used an entire box of paper for one training ...more »

Saving Time & Money while increasing efficiency

Here at the Department of Homeland Security, specifically within TSA, we use notification flyers to let individiuals know that we've inspected their property. TSA goes through thousands and thousands of these a year. I think it would be cost effective to begin using a reusable stamper that we could directly stamp bag tags. That way we're saving paper while eliminating the cost of printing the notification slips.

Urgent CT scan Vista display board

During a normal work day radiology request are flying off the printer to be done urgently or to be scheduled. If the ER or inpatient request needs to be done right away for CT scan, a lot of times it may be overlooked. The provider who placed the order must contact CT scan to get the scan done right away. For some reason we cannot split up the urgent scans from the routine scans to different printers. Also the idea was ...more »

Save Paper & Go Green

SSA began going paperless seven years ago, but we still use and waste an awful lot of paper. For example, in order for us to store documents that we have created (ie: an SSA-4268 created during a work CDR) in the electronic claims folder we have to print the document out, create a bar code for it (which also needs to be printed), and then fax it into the folder. If we receive a document that has been printed on both ...more »

Paperless Executive Secretariat Process

The Executive Secretariat at the DOE is the office through which all formal correspondence with outside entities is screened for quality control prior to sending the response. However, their process is extremely flawed with its draconian rules which requires paper submission of ALL materials remotely related to such a formal correspondence. For instance, if an outside entity has a question about an EPA rule, the formal ...more »

Mandate Electronic Submission Of Forms Within The Government

In order to truly become a "Green Government" we must eliminate paper waste. The best way to do this is to mandate that all forms be electronically fill-able, sign-able, and submit-able. I understand that there are still areas that require a handwritten signature, but there is no reason that this cannot and should not change. By going to electronic forms we can reduce our paper consumption by hundreds, if not thousands, ...more »
