Allow Citizens to Print Replacement Social Security Cards Online

Every year, the Social Security Administration processes, prints, and issues tens of millions of replacement Social Security Cards. This costs the government untold printing / postage costs and places an enormous burden on both service representatives and citizens to visit their local office for a replacement. Instead of reissuing cards on security paper by postal mail, allow citizens to sign in online at SSA.gov and ...more »

Use Both Sides of the Paper...Double Your Inventory!

Although we are trying to automate the Federal Government, there are still many times we have to use paper. When employees print, use duplex printing! When employees take notes, write on both sides! If the Agency distributes monthly Posters to hang up in the building, print 2 months at a time. Flip the poster over after the first month. When an employee gives a presentation, use the "white space" on each side of ...more »

Faxes to Email

To save paper and allow us to work most efficiently, we could install software that would permit faxes to be sent directly to our e-mails. Foremost, this would facilitate the President's telework initiative as it would permit the receipt of faxes through e-mail. This software would also save us from printing faxes into hard copy and allow us to have electronic versions of the documents that would permit us to store ...more »

Electronic notebooks to save money and paper

Many agencies receive paper documents via e-mail that could be downloaded to an electronic notebook (such as a Kindle, Ipad or other similar device, also called e-readers) to save the cost of printing. Our agency also receives large (several hundred pages) of paper documents but if we had electronic notebooks, we could ask our state partners to provide us the documents in an electronic format such as PDF or Word. Often, ...more »

Inter-agency information sharing

While working on claims within the Social Security Administration, we very often have to verify a claimant's income from other sources. Many times, this income comes from another government entity such as the VA, EDD, OPM pension, HHSA, Dept of Child Support, etc. We spend time and resources requesting information on the benefits from the claimant, and if the claimant is unable to obtain the information we spend more ...more »

Revamp USAJOBS.GOV To Allow For Job Applicant Feedback

USAJOBS.GOV should be revamped.

Job applicants should not only receive the confirmation that the resume/application were sent, applicants should also be provided feedback from the HR reviewer.

The HR communication would prevent the necessity of follow-ups and simplify the Federal Government job application process, saving the Federal Government millions of dollars.

Publications on initial contact

Currently, policy requires that Publication 1 and Notice 609 are sent with the initial contact letter and the appointment confirmation letter during an examination. If these letters were rewritten to include the highlights from the Publication 1 and Notice 609, and then add a reference to the IRS website and the publications online. This would eliminate about four pages of material in every exam, and would only require ...more »

Automation of VCAA Letter for Veterans Benefits

The VA is required by law to send all claimants the VCAA Letter, "Veterans Claims Assistance Act" Letter, with the purpose of helping the claimant. There are millions of these letters sent out each year. The VA needs to automate the VCAA Letter. The VA asks for the Veterans e-mail address on the initial 526 claim application. When the Veteran has e-mail, we should send the VCAA Letter electronically, with annotation ...more »

Digital T.O.

All T.O. should be digital, but the current ones we have are slowing us down and is more a nuisance than a problem solver. We should switch to a digital system that is easier to find T.O.s. The one we have is complicated, just think simple Adobe Acrobat/IPAD or something similar. IPAD is easy to handle, having the T.O’s all in one application in alphabetical order or search and find would make things much easier. Just ...more »
