Change Building Temperatures

Require warmer facility temperatures in summer and cooler facility temperatures in winter. Encourage people to dress appropriately for the season. Most facilities could change their temperatures a degree or two with little difference in occupant comfort. Over the entire federal government a huge cost savings can be recognized. Unoccupied spaces can be adjusted more significantly.

Turn off computer monitors at night.

Turn off computer monitors at night. Computer monitors can always be turned off at night. Computer upgrades can occur with monitor screens switched off. Leaving computer monitors on at all times is a huge waste of energy and dollars. It is completely unneccessary!! Let's save those dollars! Let's save that energy! It will also cut our greenhouse gas emissions!

Training Materials Cost Savings

I suggest that participant binders be kept by the Training Center and be reused by returning students for a particular class. Savings realized can easily come to over $200,000 a year. For each student attending training, a 3 ring participant binder is created containing training materials & presentations. After the class concludes, a majority of these binders are left behind and tossed in the trash because students ...more »

All governmental organizations either currently have or are in the process of activating a SharePoint online Virtual Work Environment (VWE). More impetus needs to be placed on activation and utilization of these environments in an effort to truly 'do more with less' as well as creating a capability to implement their mandated telework capabilities and paper work reduction mandates. This one system will allow every organization ...more »

Reuse existing buildings

Reuse existing buildings when possible. Existing building use is usually more cost effective and is more conserving of resources. It is wasteful to tear down buildings that can be used productively.

It would not only save money ...more »

Landscaping - Native Plants

The use of native plants for landscaping around government buildings would save a significant amount of money. The cost savings would come from the lower prices of native plants, and the substantially less maintenance required for them. Native plants will not need fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and water (after the first planting). Native plants have longer lifespans and will not need replacement ...more »

Conserve Power and water

In my ventures as a government employee I do see a lot of waste in electricity and water. I have noticed a sink in the bathroom of my office building that has run nonstop since I moved to this location a year and a half ago, if that was my sink at home I would have had a heart attack when I got my water bill, even after it has been reported to the building repair staff it goes unfixed, and we are asking the American people ...more »
