Simple Solar Idea for Military Installations

Cover the roofs of large buildings on military installations with solar panels. The enormous square footage of these roofs presents an "already-in-place" platform for solar energy generation. No additional space would be required for solar farms, wind turbines (which would be impractical due to the danger posed to flight operations), etc. Just use the space we already have. This would drastically reduce the strain ...more »

Mission first volunteer when you want to.

USAF specifically puts too much emphasis on community service and volunteering. These same people fall into the trap and/or play the game end up getting promoted yet no knowing about their primary duties. Eliminate ‘mandatory’ volunteer/community service and focus on utilizing your best assists, people. The more people you have perfecting their jobs the lees you’ll need to carry out the mission. The military itself ...more »

We WILL SAVE Billions ...

Eliminate Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI)

The ORI process is an incredible waste of time and resources. Military units have been tasked for real wars for the last 10 years and regular training deployments for much longer. No matter what, they still have to undergo an Inspector General (IG) inspection every 3 years to prove they can deploy in a real world situation. The issue is that no unit ever deploys for an actual contingency operation the way they are graded ...more »

Federal Landscaping

Too much money is being spent to beautify military installations. By changing the landscaping to rock via all the grass we can save money by not having to water the entire installation or pay for workers to cut it/fix it.

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are ...more »

OHA to BAH System for OCONUS

All OHA needs to switch to the BAH system. This would drive the OCONUS housing market to be more competitive, with massive benefits to the Air Force, many benefits to the service members, and even, to a lesser degree, some benefits to the local community. Members have absolutely no incentive for saving the Government money under the OHA system. Short term estimated savings in Guam alone: $45,000,000+ per year Long term ...more »

End of QTR/Year spending

There have been some similar posts, but I am specifically suggesting a stop to the military closeout spending. At the end of every quarter there is a demand to spend every cent available whether we need supplies or not. The justification is that we'll get our funds cut next year if we don't use them this year. This is the kind of thinking that has us where we are. My suggestion is to make the justification process ...more »

COMBINE ALL MILITARY UNDER ONE

COMBINE ALL MILITARY UNDER ONE NAME, JUST HAVE THE DIFFERENT AREA BRANCHES, LIKE AIR, WATER, LAND, ETC. EASILY IDENTIFIED IN ONE UNIFORM, ETC. THIS WOULD SAVE ON SATIONARY, HIGH PAID EXECUTIVE COSTS, TRAVEL COSTS, ETC. THINK OF THE MONEY SAVINGS!

Energy Solution

All over the us, there is weather, and not being put to use. The government owns millions of acres of land, and yet still pays for electricity. If they were to utilize their land with wind turbines, and solar panels, they could not only provide for the land they own, but possibly produce enough energy to sell back to the surrounding communities, and pay for other items the government needs without coming out of taxpayers ...more »

Mental Health Evaluations For Those Joining The Military

Currently I am employed as a Mental Health Techinician in the USAF. It has become apparent to me that there are quite a few members who have seemed to slip through the cracks and end up having mental breakdowns or have disorders before joining the military. The psychological "screening" that is in place right now is not as efficient as it could be. A great deal of money is spent training individuals, and even more so ...more »

Iceland-like arrangements

Rather than attempting to build up militaries from scratch, why not do what we did in Iceland? For nealry sixty years, Icelanders allowed us the US to be their military. Imagine how much we could save and how much friendly nations would save if we did that around the world.

Billion dollar coin stockpile solution

I've read many news stories recently complaining about how much it costs the government to stockpile dollar coins that aren't being used. If you want to get the coins into circulation and out of the warehouses, get the money out to military commisaries. Substituting paper money with dollar coins will be easier on military bases, as the Forces are used to taking orders, and trying out new things with no questions asked. ...more »

Government Accountability Office

Purchasing Priorities

Purchases with goverment funds should be reviewed based on a priority scale to ensure that goverment agenceys buy things that are needed instead of things that are wanted. A scale could be implemented cheaply and tracked through cumperters to allow for a budget that can reflect needs over wants, this would give an extra level of oversite of purcheses to persons running budgets. For example a simple priority list could ...more »

Civilian/Contractor in Afghanistan

I believe if you got rid of the contractors/civilians in Afghanistan it would reduce the deficit tremendously. While being deployed here (AF/E-7) I have met so many American citizens that are getting paid 6 digits for what the actual military can do cheaper. For example, there was a fork lift driver moving cargo when the planes arrive and he stated that he has been here for 8 years and makes $125,000/year. Also we ...more »
