Green IT Waste

Like many agencies we have a warehouse of old and out of date IT hardware. Instead of being held in storage or landfill disposal, agencies should coordinate internally or if possible, throughout the federal government to collect and dispose of IT hardware using recycling centers that provide a cash value for recovered components. These centers protect and secure hardware, recycle plastic, and resell usable components ...more »

Depleted Uranium as Fuel

I have heard of a reactor that uses depleted uranium as a fuel source. It's called a Traveling wave reactor. This would be a good way to get rid of all that DU we have lying around. The down side is that the tech is currently still being researched according to the few pubs I took a look at. As such it is a long tem project which would be a good idea to start now (yes I DO know that we have a buget crises) or at least ...more »

Paperless Government - eLearning

The Government is in a movement in which we want to save paper, some call it a "Paperless Government". While we're working hard to "Go Green", we seem to be lacking on one department. Education. The "Green" White House

While it may not save millions of taxpayer dollars, symbolism is important. The President should consider installing a geothermal system to heat and cool the White House. It will be a great way to highlight a natural and cost effective way to heat and cool the homes of Americans and highlight the remaining years of the 30% tax credit for energy efficient home updates. Support Digital and Electronic Documentation

i am new to the federal government, coming in I heard about how green we are and how we've been working hard to reduce the number of printers and the amount of paper we use. This is an outright pack of greenwash! Since joining I have noticed that for every 6 cubes there is a printer! The office I left had one multi-function machine for 45 people, yet my new colleagues continue to go on and on about how much paper they ...more »

Solar Roadways and Walkways

Solar Roadways are quiet and clean (ideal for military bases, eliminates unsightly powerlines, ideal for charging electric cars, can be used in remote areas, much less pollution). Also, production would create lots of green jobs. This idea can also be applied to sidewalks, walkways, playgrounds, parking lots, etc... They melt snow and ice eliminating lots of snow removal and they illuminate roads. It would be a great ...more »

3. Solar and Green Roofs Initiative

The Government can save millions of dollars if solar panels are installed on roofs of federal buildings. Most of these buildings have flat roofs and solar panels have increased flexibilities. Solar energy will decrease the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which will have a direct impact in making a greener environment. If 50% of the electricity originate from other sources such as solar or wind, the ...more »
