USCIS Paperwork & Cost Reduction re State Dept's PIMS database

Have USCIS send all approved I-129 petitions to DOS Kentucky Consular Center for scanning and allow the KCC to forward these documents to the National Records Center for storage. DOS developed its Petition Information Management Service (PIMS) to provide consular officers overseas electronic copies of documents; by eliminating the global shipping of hard copies of often voluminous files, PIMS spares the costs, time,... more »

Allow Employee Clearance Vetting to Transfer Across Components

Within DHS we have multiple offices and components yet if you wish to transfer to a position within DHS you still need to undergo another suitability clearance. The vetting process (background & clearance eligibility review) costs the taxpayers a considerable amount of money – not only for the investigation but also for the possible idle time spent by employees awaiting clearance results. The Office of Personnel Management... more »

Northern Border Ports of Entry

I feel there is a lot of money wasted on a Port of Entry (POE) on the Northern Border. For instance in the State of North Dakota there is a POE almost every thirty minutes of driving. A small POE that has less than ten employees and is not open 24 hrs a day is a waste of money, resources, and a security threat. I say that because in a large POE the CBP officers have tools and man power not available in a smaller POE.... more »

Put Coast Guard under DoD

Take the Coast Guard out from under DHS and put them under DoD. The Coast Guard is co-located around Navy bases in many cases and they could share facilities and resources that are not at capacity. For the other locations, the Coast Guard could operate as usual.

UNEMPLOYMENT = COMMUNITY SERVICE

If we are going to pay people who are unemployed, why don't we get some work out of them!? If nothing else, maybe there can be a minimum amount of community service required to collect these benifits! Just think of all the community projects that could be accomplished by all these millions of people! They would still have more than enough time to search for new jobs, and it might even incintivise some of the people that... more »

Eliminate Generic Printing Cartridges for OEM

These "generic" printer toner and ink cartridges are of poor quality and the cost savings are being tossed out the window every time we have to replace a next to new cartridge because it is failing. Not to mention the lost productivity and duplicated work when one of these fails. In two months time I personally have replaced four of these that were in use less than a week or two. If you add up the time it takes IT... more »

Elimate CP CLEAR for FREE Lexis Nexis on OSC

DHS pays Choice Point to use their database CLEAR to research businesses, people, addresses, etc... I just attended a free class to learn to use Lexis Nexis, which has an alerts feature and improved refinement capacity over CLEAR. I suggest that DHS and its components save money by cancelling their CP contract and have all of their employees use the free service Lexis Nexis provides through the Open Source Center.

Eliminate Overtime Pay

Many employees "extend" work hours if they are provided with the incentive of overtime pay. Because they essentially learn to rely on this extra pay, they work slower to ensure they are able to work overtime hours. By eliminating overtime and keeping employees at salaries, the work would be much more efficiently handled. Trust me on this one, after many years working at different offices in operations and having spoken... more »

Stop producing Flood Maps and provide layers to Internet Mappers

FEMA could investigate getting out of the mapping business, and perhaps, instead, FEMA could provide digital overlays to Google Maps, Zillow, Bing Maps, and others, instead of hosting huge map databases themselves at various States and the FEMA Map Service Center. There would be some changes in the Regulations and perhaps the laws to make this happen, but this isn’t rocket science. Make it easy for Internet users of... more »
