HEIGHTEN LEO EFFICIENCY/CONSOLIDATE UNDERUTILLIZED CBPO ENFORCEM

We can stream line overlapping law enforcement functions/jurisdictions, and save money, have a higher amount of productivity and utilization of resources,a stronger more defined mission, and a stronger more supportive Chain of Command adherant to the Criminal Law Enforcement mission. This will be accomplished by consolidating the criminal law enforcement functions of the underutillized, misappropriated "orphan" positions ...more »

STOP THE INSANITY! Why Throw Away $$$ Billions???

Why does a completely tax exempt organization voluntarily throw away billions of dollars by paying taxes on travel? I travel a lot for the Navy and detest that taxes for TDY travel expenses are charged to my government credit card. Though the Government Treasury will get the taxes back, for the Navy and the Program Office (PMA), those funds are lost. Those lost and unrecoverable funds, which can quickly add up to billions, ...more »

Anonymous Interviews for all jobs- SAVE EEOC COMPLAINTS!

Too often high-ranking officials choose those most like them for promotions and unfortunately discriminate against more qualified minorities. Perhaps it is time for others outside the region to choose who to promote through anonymous interviews, thus race and ethnicity are not a part of the hiring decision. Such methods are used when submitting dissertations for doctorate degrees. The dissertation is not judged by "who" ...more »

Implement smarter workstation replacement policies

It is a given that CPUs need to be replaced every so often to accommodate software upgrades and improve processing speeds. (Perhaps it is true that some agencies, such as SSA, replace them too frequently, but that is the subject of other SAVE Award ideas so I will not get into that here.) However, computer monitors have longer life cycles and so whenever agencies do a workstation replacement they should not simply replace ...more »

Use Both Sides of the Paper...Double Your Inventory!

Although we are trying to automate the Federal Government, there are still many times we have to use paper. When employees print, use duplex printing! When employees take notes, write on both sides! If the Agency distributes monthly Posters to hang up in the building, print 2 months at a time. Flip the poster over after the first month. When an employee gives a presentation, use the "white space" on each side of ...more »

Benefits via SSA

Reality is that the system for Social Security benefits is broken and abused. There needs to be an overhaul to restore the program to what the public perceives it as, or some similar resemblance. First and foremost is the SSI program, the more abused and costly since these recipients have never contributed. Children get benefits too easily as with a large rate of termination from age 18 evaluations. There needs to ...more »

VBA- Duty To Assist Paper Notifications

The VA-VBA sends notification letters EVERY TIME a claim is received from a Veteran; if the Veteran forgets to add an issues and turns around and sends that issue - VBA sends a letter. Often these letters are 5-10 pages. This notification action is required by Congress. I think a savings (dollars) in Mailings, envelops and letter paper and VSR preparation (LABOR) could be reduced if the VBA sent ONE LETTER in a 12-month ...more »

Construction Ducuments Digital Vault, Division or Bureau

PROBLEM: typical Construction Documents Sets (like drawings, specifications, contracs, bid packages, etc.) are very large and heavy weight in nature, consuming a lot resources and money from the agencies & customers. SOLUTION: to establish a centralized Digital Vault, so all sets can be submitted, saved & shared in a digital manner, reducing cost of production, cost on filling, shorting access time to all their users, ...more »

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later. We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing. We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government. ...more »

Reward Organizational Thrift

On command-level annual personnel reports, include a line to document the percent spent compared to the prior commander. Use an entire line to document unusual circumstances such as major storm events which may necessate extra expenditure. Reward commanders who are thrifty (yet fully accomplish the mission) appropriately, such as by accelerating their career paths. Promote them faster than commanders who spend more ...more »

IT Development

Many government agencys have duplicative IT development efforts going on within their Agency because the Agency's CIO does not have the authority or responsibility to oversee all Agency IT development efforts. Make each Agency's CIO responsible for all IT development within the Agency. The CIO would receive all the Agency's IT funding. All IT efforts would have to be approved through the Agency's IT Configuration Control ...more »

Statistics show that 91% of Americans now use cell phones. Over 35% of Americans now own a smart phone. There is an App for everything these days. SSA has a great website online. There are a lot of private companies that have Apps that give Social Security information. SSA should develop this App to include information such as: *MySSA; *Check Status of Claim; *Social Security Appointment Reminder; *FAQ’s; *Most ...more »
