Ambulance Transports by VA Fire Departments

My idea which is already in affect in a handful of VAMC-fire departments. The i dea i hev is that all Veteran Affairs Fire departments should be required to provude to the servicing medical center and the veterans of such Ambulance transportation instead of primarily utilizing private transport ambulance companies which increas the cost of transports for VAMC patients because it is guaranteed payment. I have had the fortunate ...more »

1. MORE FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, LESS CONTRACTORS.

Have federal employees perform more work functions than contractors. While it is true in these challenging economic times that fair compensation must be granted in order to retain a high-quality workforce, there seems to be a disparity between contractor and federal employees. Even federal employees can retire and come back as contractors, making more money with less responsibility. If these individuals are the right ...more »

American Made Office Supplies

As the person who orders supplies for my office, it has come to my attention that office supplies used in the Federal Government are (for the most part) not made in the USA. Similarly, souvenirs sold by the House and Senate are not made in the USA. Why is that? Shouldn't we support jobs here at home?

Lights Out Nights & weekends

I had read in the paper one day that we spend alot of money on electric bills by keeping the lights on during the weekends. Why is no one is working! If an employee does have to work on the weekends then when he/she leaves turn off all the days in the area. And then after the cleaning people are done, have buidling sercurity go around and turn off all of the days. I mean when you leave the house in the mornings to ...more »

Hire grumpy old codgers to manage press briefings

Instead of high-priced, highly-trained public information officers, hire dirt-cheap, grouchy old codgers, coots, and old farts to conduct press meetings. Invasive press questions can be quickly dismissed with a signature "why you ... in my day we didn't ask questions about the House Foreign Affairs Committee, we just ignored them, like you should be doing!" Then the old gentleman could make some meaningless witticism ...more »

Create a career ladder for engineering excellence and growth.

The current system provides no room for engineers to grow and thus grow the nation economy. They are currently driven under labor policies that have no appreciation for true engineering work or innovation. They are becoming endangered species and if not protected under national law they may soon become extinct.

4. Select team members for critical initiatives based on solid c

Current practices require office managers to select individuals from their organizations, to participate on critical cross-government and cross-office initiatives. Instead of finding the proper skills and competence for the task, office and organizational mangers, driven by interest and turf protection, are more likely to appoint those individuals who can protect their interests. This result in less than effective ...more »

SHARED DOCUMENTS

The best idea I can think of would be to implement an internet shared drive between all of the agencies. Only information that needs to be shared on there will be posted, with access given to only those requested by the creator and modifying availability only allowed to a certain few. By utilizing the internet as storage for documents, we will no longer have to use burn bags and we will greatly reduce our storage costs. ...more »

Website Security

The registration process for this website is not secure. This should be a secure website. Userids and passwords should not be transmitted in the clear. There is a high probability that some government employees may register using a password that is also valid on a government system and then that system could be hacked. My suggestion is that whitehouse.gov, as the agency running this idea process should secure the website ...more »

Create a 8 Year (1Term) for President

The president will have 8 years to get his or her agenda completed. The president will not have to start campaining half way through the first term since they know they will not be reelected. This would save millions in election costs. Every 24 years we would have three elections instead of 6.

Lead by Example

Our President, Congressmen and Senators are in the news daily stating that we all need to make cuts in order for this country to survive. People will be more inclined to do this if our leaders showed the same restraint in their public and personnel lives. Lead by example and you might be surprised how many "ordinary" citizens are willing to do the same!
