I went to school at U of H in Houston. As a student, I had to complete several interships at local agencies. Not only is it good experience for the intern, but the company (SSA) doesn't have to pay out any salaries or benefits. Supervisory FTOs serve a region and should have their office located in the region they were hired to serve. Instead they are located in Albuquerque and spend money traveling to their region to do their jobs, approximately $300,000 per Supervisor per year in travel $$ x 6 Supervisors is a lot of money spent traveling. Require the supervisors to have their office in the region they were hired to serve.
We issue checks to hundreds of New US Citizens over 65 that have never worked in the US. If their family brings them to the US then they should be responsible to care for their aging family members with their own funds. It is unfair to those who were born in the US.

I have had the frustration when trying to purchase supplies and equipment of researching the lowest cost available on items only to have our procurement office purchase items at a higher cost because they were being purchased from a small business or disadvantaged business rather than a large company. Delegate to all branches to use USPS for their shipping needs. Whether it is a overnight letter or product coming from one of our many vendors, specify using USPS. With the financial problems USPS is having, negotiate good rates (compared to UPS, Fed-Ex and most trucking companies. This would benefit one of our own branches and generate more income that is desperately needed to keep USPS solvent.
A lot of employees spend a lot of time on the DOILearn courses that cost a lot of money to create. However, when these are listed on an application as a substitute for lack of experience and ignored, it amounts to a lot of wastered government time, money, and effort training its employees. Stop charging National Parks travel fees(Govtrip) for in house travel, ie backcountry. $15.00 a pop takes away from the budget and could be spent better within. It's not like we call anyone to do this.
Same with other travel. Especially when the employee can do it on their own and AGAIN SAVE money.
Look into reforming or better yet, doing away with GSA. I would bet the origional idea of having a government division that looks out for government purchasing was a great one. But now, it seems like anything you get from a GSA vendor, is "expensive junk", which more times than not, usually has to be purchased in bulk.
