Our goal as federal employees is to serve our fellow Americans and help them obtain the information and services that are most important to them. One of the prominent ways we do this is through the World Wide Web. Whether it’s providing a venue for the public to submit innovative ideas to our President for the benefit of the Nation, applying for financial aid to fulfill our dreams of going to college, or just simply looking ...more »

Consolidate web sites The federal government has hundreds, maybe thousands, of websites. There should be an effort in consolidating some of them for search engine optimization and possibly even financial resources. AIDS.Gov is run by the Department of Health and Human Services, it should be a part of the hhs.gov domain. Choosemyplate.gov is run by USDA, it should be a part of USDA.gov. I’m not saying to get rid of ...more »
Good nutrition starts from home (and at the office too!!). We need to encourage our own staff to eat more fruits, vegetables and increase their water intake during office hours. Making fruits and vegetables accessible for our staff increases the chances of improving their nutritional habits and lifestyle. This means that the government workforce could improve their efficiency at work (i.e., less time off work due to illnesses ...more »
Because of little oversight/consequences; medical providers continue to commit fraud by: overbilling Medicare, i.e., they bill as: 1). Dr. Bill Smith; 2). PA of Dr. Smith; 3). Smith Happy Clinic; 4). Smith Health Providers, LLC,etc., so on for the SAME SERVICE. They also bill as a "new, 1st time patient"(they get more $$ for that)--when, in fact) the pt. is an established pt. Many times, ins. commpanies notify ...more »
Think patient here should be able to bring in there own personal efects. like toothbrush, underwears, pillows ,sanitary pads and others things that they get free. and it is not given them the articles but they just throw them away or leave them around after they leave. We have to throw them away because they were used and not taken home. This is money that is going to waste. I worked in Puerto Rico asanurse for 30 years ...more »
I appreciate every attempt, big and small, that our VA makes to be better stewards of our money. I challenge the VA to examine the financial impact of employee poor health on our system. A healthy bottom line depends on healthy people. We are lately painfully reminded of this issue as we have attended the memorial services of our most valued employees. There are various statistics that demonstrate overwhelming employer ...more »
The most important reason for high governmental cost are overuse of medical technology and devices partially related to defensive medicine and financial gain. In order to prevent this, government should look at a rate of procedures done by individual doctors and create normal distribution curve. Doctor at the upper end of overuse should be studied to see why they are above average and doctor who save money and use less ...more »
DHHS uses ICRAS to electronically submit OMB-related regulatory and Paperwork Reduction Act documents to OMB. The majority of the the rest of the government uses ROCIS to do the same. While ICRAS was at the forefront of electronic technology in the past, it is almost identical to ROCIS now, and should either be joined with ROCIS or elimiinated to avoid duplicating redundant IT systems. While it appears that cost savings ...more »
While on long-term detail from CDC to U.S. EPA, I was required to take routine periodic computer-based training for both agencies--for example, I took Information Security Awareness, as well as Ethics, training twice a year during the 2-year detail. I observed that each agency provided essentially the same training, with the information presented slightly differently. EPA’s training was in general more informative than ...more »
FDA Investigators (CSOs) in each district office are assigned inspections within their office's area of jurisdiction. Numbers of inspectlons to fulfill work plans set by congress could be more easily met/or exceeded and the cost of resources (gas, vehicle upkeep, CSO driving hours per inspectlon) reduced If inspections were assigned with consideration given to: 1) hours spent driving to/from the office to pick up/return ...more »
A notice of hearing before an ALJ is accompanied by an Acknowledgement of Receipt. This is returned signed and dated. There is another sheet enclosed disclosing the appropiate mail address. If both forms can be printed on each side of paper, 1 sheet would be eliminated. Over 6M claimants receive the Notices along with their attorney/representatives (if applicable). There are at least 138 hearing offices that originate ...more »
Stop printing and distributing employee telephone directories. The information is available on web sites and likely to be more current than a printed edition. Save the money and save the trees.
Medicare & You (handbook) is sent automatically to enrollees unless opt-out is chosen at mymedicare.gov. A legal guardian for, say, 50 enrollees would have to establish 50 accounts and then opt-out at each. Create an easier opt-out method.
THE SURGICAL DEPARTMENT SPENDS A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY PURCHASING NEW EQUIPMENT FOR OUR PATIENTS AND SURGEONS. THE VA IS VERY GENEROUS. MANY OF THE ITEMS USED IN THE O.R. ARE VERY DELICATE AND EASILY DAMAGED. COST TO REPAIR EQUIPMENT SUCH AS OUR FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPES HAS BEEN WELL OVER $200,000 THIS YEAR ALONE. ONE OPTION MIGHT BE DEVELOPING A LEASING PROGRAM WITH THE COMPANIES. THIS COULD BE A VISN WIDE PROGRAM WHERE ...more »
