The removal of printers from offices would force employees to find new more efficient ways to communicate. The savings from paper and toners could be used to provide ways for those without internet access to get information.

The United States should end all foreign aid to countries we do not have treaties with except in cases of emergencies where we could give humanitarian support of food, water, disaster supplies, and medical supplies. Eliminate/minimize/truncate the duration of expensive consultancy services. There is greater job knowledgte within the organic organization. Improving knowledge management and motivating organic personnel are two powerful ways of improving performance and goal achievement. After all, what is a consultant, but somebody who borrows your watch to tell you what time of day it is and walks away with your watch.
All escalators that are next to elevators should be shut off to conserve operating energy and maintenance costs. People are able to walk up a flight of stairs. If there is an elevator close enough to accomodate people who can't use stairs, the escalator is redundant. The exercise will also improve people's health, saving on health insurance costs.
All emails, and attachments (word, excel, powerpoint and access documents) can be scanned in pdf file format for efficient electronic redistribution. For example, the Xerox colorcube copier, scanner, fax machine multifunction unit can be used in lieu of the standard copier printer. Institute a summer dress code at federal agencies so the men don't need the AC so high to make up for them wearing heavy suits. Instead make the buildings less cold to save money and help the environment.
Eliminate disposable paper, plastic, and styrofoam materials in federal cafeterias and tenant kitchens by requiring dishwashing. One standard set of kitchenware could be available for each cafeteria/kitchen to use collectively.
Lengthen Dept. of State Embassy personnel overseas postings from two years to three to four years, thus saving millions of dollars every year in transfer travel costs of employees and their families, shipment of their personal effects, and shipment of their private vehicles from post to post. Monetization is a process whereby the department of agriculture purchases food in the United States that is then shipped overseas and sold in local markets. The proceeds of these sales are used for foreign assistance programs. If IT services at all federal agencies automatically connects all PCs to at least one printer with capability to print automatically on both sides, and sets double-sided printing as a default setting, paper and toner use could be reduced dramatically. I work for USAID overseas, and frequently the cost for air tickets and hotel reservations obtained through our contracted travel agency (CWL) is extremely higher than the ones we can obtain through the air company’s website or travel websites such as Expedia, Hotwire, Fedrooms, etc. I suggest that agencies may have the option to use website based options to procure travel but the contracted travel agent.
