Million documents on paper and in digital formats are sent (mailed) to National archives for temporary and permanent storage. Create an secure online document and data server to digitally store documents are currently being stored in paper and CDs that are mailed to the archives. There are plenty of reusable office furnishings and supplies such as chairs and binders that are either placed in storage and/or in the trash that could be reutilized. This could save the government money. Also, the unnecessary discard of such products would decrease environmental waste.
I work in a aviation operations section. We currently print 1,000 Naval Aviator Flight Records per month. We store these for two years then submit them to the National Records for safekeeping. This is one squadron in the USMC using 1,000 pages a month. The electronic system we print the documents from allows us to save the file in pdf format. The cost to make a penny coin today exceeds one cent, so the US govt is losing money on every penny it makes. Coordinate a coinage change to elminate the penny and the paper dollar bill. This will lead to universal use of the dollar coin which lasts longer than a paper dollar bill. This will result in savings on printing dollar bills. Currently all files, whether temporary or permanent need to be stored for a specified period of time until such time they are either destroyed or archived. These files are paper/hard copies. Instead of having hard copies of all files, save files on CD's and memory sticks/flash drives. The following are benefits to doing so: Saves on paper, thereby saving trees.
