construction costs

SSA is building a new site, from scratch for about $50 million dollars. It would be cheaper and faster to take one of the vacant buildings in this Baltimore area, gut it, update the electronic and safety features and put that building into the system for our use and have space to house all of our departments rather than lease out buildings, eliminating scattered campuses all over the area. It would also end the need for ...more »

GSA Tenant Satisfaction Surveys

GSA has been conducting Tenant Satisfaction Surveys for many years (see http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/100239 and http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/102239). They often hand-deliver the paper surveys to targeted tenants – all employees in the facility – and ask them to complete them and mail them to Gallup for tabulation or to complete the survey on line. GSA provides gifts to tenants along with the surveys. My suggestion ...more »

Summer Business Casual Dress Code = Less A/C

Why are federal employees expected to wear suits and ties during summer? The summer dress code for all federal workers should be changed to business casual [including golf shirts] and the ambient indoor temperature of federal office buildings should be increased 5 degrees. Employees will be more comfortable at work and commuting on mass transit, no more complaints about overly air conditioned offices, and the government ...more »

Office Supplies - Shipping Costs

I am an employee of USDA-NRCS and obtain our office supplies from GSA. When supplies are shipped they arrive in multiple shipments and sometimes it will be a large shipping box for just a 12 pk of AA batteries. The government could save money by having GSA ship all supplies in one shipping box. It is aggravating to return to the office after being in the field one day and find a huge box that has been delivered and ...more »

Alternative fuel vehicles

Change the default option for rental cars used during TDY travel to alternative fuel vehicles. This will increase the demand for these vehicles which will reduce the cost per vehicle to produce. This will in turn increase the demand by the general public. This will reduce consumption of imported petroleum products.

Change oil at 5000+ miles instead of 3000 miles

Fleet managers are still requiring / suggesting changing oil in Federal government fleet vehicles at 3000 mile intervals, however, vehicle manufacturers are now suggesting oil changes at 5000-7000 mile intervals for vehicles built in the past 10 years. Considering most federal fleet vehicles are less than 10 years old, I suggest that new regulations be issued to change this antiquated practice. The newer oil blends ...more »

Excess Government Real Property

Sell off all government real property that is idle. This includes vacant land and under used buildings. This will generate a one time increase in revenue and a reduction in long term costs. It will also increase state and local revenue as non taxable government property would go on the tax roles.

Eliminate mandating GSA Pair Cities

If I can fly out of a closer airport, at a cheaper price, I should be able to do so. I cannot understand why GSA will mandate me to drive 1.5 hrs to another airport, pay more for the flight, AND pay for parking? It's an absurd practice that needs to be stopped immediately.

Government Credit Card Standardization

Many agencies use different government "GSA Smartpay 2" credit card providers (Visa, Mastercard, etc.). Standardize all agencies into one uniform credit card provider. (e.g. a militar Reservist who is also a federal civilian employee may have 2 distinct and separate credit cards that are both GSA Smartpay 2 cards utilizing different providers)
