The Federal Government spends several billion dollars developing, hosting, and conducting training courses each year. Today every Agency has its own web-based learning management system and develops its own courses. There is little to no integration of training capabilities or content, no consolidated training resource list, and very limited multi-Agency coordinated training development initiatives. Every Agency has ...more »
Cross training is training an employee to do a different part of the Company's work. This saves time and in return can save money.
Energy usage in federal buildings could be drastically cut by planting trees on the south and west sides to shade the buildings, thus reducing the need for cooling. Low cost way of saving the government on utility bills. This would cover all agencies that have structures.
How much money would the govt save if employees provided their own blk/blue ballpoint pens and pencils? This would also reduce shrinkage.
Require that the Federal Agencies lease hybrid cars. Al predictions are that fuel prices will continue to rise and this will reduce the government fuel bills and improve air quality and human health.
Start incorporating more solar, wind, natural gas, etc. as energy sources in federal buildings.

That “new car smell” may be one of the most expensive scents in the world. Car makers offer warranties of 10 years and 100,000 miles, yet the government minimum replacement standards fall far short of this. The government may be addicted to that ...more »

In my opinion, the largest untapped area of government savings over the next ten years will be derived by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) performing Common Area Maintenance/Energy Optimization Audits (CAM/EOA Audits). The GSA can substantially increase energy savings and reduce CAM charges by performing audits of existing equipment and services provided by government contractors and instituting new technologies ...more »
Let's cut our garbage hauling and landfilling costs by implementing a recycling and food waste reclaimation system. We gain revenue by selling metals, glass, paper, and plastics to recyclers and can use some of that revenue to collect all organic matter and send it to compost sites. This would reduce our hauling fees greatly, also saving energy by reducing the costs of transporting garbage. And creating healthy soil ...more »
