dress code appropriate for the weather/temperature

A majority of the energy cost in my home is due to heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. I would assume that a massive amount of federal money goes to heating and cooling office space. Current dress codes and customs suggest that a person should dress exactly the same in both winter and summer. This requires more heating/cooling costs for buildings as they try to reach 70 degrees for every work day. Instead, ...more »

IT ALL ADDS UP TO $

Have employees submit time off requests electronically. Do not require attorney’s to submit daily logs of work produced or monthly reports of such (wasting paper, ink and time from work at hand). Go paperless completely at SSA. Assure all attorney workloads are assigned in CPMS and not given to attorney on a piece of paper (wasting more ink and paper, not to mention the cost of shredding and excess PII). UNIFORM ...more »

No Up-Front Cost Energy Saving

Set up financing so that the investments in energy-saving equipment and other energy efficiency upgrades can be done without any initial cost. With a financing mechanism in place, a project that might cost $10 million up front and save $1.5 million per year, could now be done with no up-front cost. The $10 million would be borrowed and, if paid back over 15 years, it would cost less than $80,000 per year. So, rather ...more »

One pay system

I still don't understand why we have all these agencies, departments, divisions and we use many different tools to pay employees. I shudder to think about all the money that we waste upgrading all these systems individually when we could maintain one system for all employees. Sure it would take some time to build and of course money, but in the long run it would ensure a consistent experience for employees and ease ...more »

Eliminate all Czar Positions and their staffs

Czar positions that have been created over the last 2 1/2 years are duplicative of existing federal infrastructure. Czar positions and their staffs should therefore be eliminated and problems be sent to existing infrastructure for resolution. Czar positions cause confusion as to who is in charge and who is accountable. Czar structure wastes tax payer dollars. Cutting them will save $Billions annually and will also ...more »

Standardize Fleet Management

Standardize the management of our vehicle and equipment fleets. Currently, each agency, writes policy/regulation and has software, procedures, and management policy for their fleets. Conversely, we're all doing the same thing; tracking utilization, right-sizing, greening, tracking fuel, training, etc. On top of that, each agency is writing directives, regulations, policy, and even creating separate forms. Standardizing ...more »

Calibration Technicians

In the Navy, calibration techs come from several ratings (AT, ET, EM, IC). When they go to ships there is only two ships with actual cal labs (CVNs and LHDs). These ship cal labs are manned by AT's and are supplemented with personnel sent TAD. The "small boys" assign one or two personnel to perform pressure and tempature calibrations. They go to a two week school to get qualified. The rest of their items are sent to regional ...more »

Make SAVE Award website more easy-to-use

The SAVE Award is a great idea; unfortunately, the website gets completely bogged down with the sheer number of ideas being submitted (many duplicative or simply impossible on their face). I'd suggest implementing some sort of moderation/oversight process so that certain ideas (i.e. "eliminate the Dept of Education" or "Eliminate the Dept of Veterans Affairs") are removed from the site. These ideas are too far-fetched ...more »
