Deploy SoftWare Automation and Technology (SWAT) Teams

Right now most of our business processes are manual and paper based resulting in literally thousands of person-hours being wasted on error prone data entry and paper shuffling. We spend millions of dollars procuring and maintaining, old, antiquated, and overly complex systems that can be replaced with new, cheaper, and easier to use web based systems. Do you spend countless hours updating/managing spreadsheets, entering ...more »

EXCESSIVE REVIEW REQUIREMENTS

Currently lower level areas are reviewed annually by mid level regions, who are reviewed by upper level divisions, who are reviewed by departments. Each of these reviews are done in person, by a team, which involves time and travel of very highly paid individuals. Many of these reviews/inspections involve meerly checking the blocks to verify compliance. I think reorganization of these requirements would save millions. ...more »

emloyee trade website

Why not make it more accessible for employees to relocate when events in their life require it. Right now it is a fact that employees who move far away for whatever reason they make this decision, they now have to face the weight of their decision by commuting to their job which can be anywhere up to about 100 miles or more. I have come across many employees that wish they would be considered for a position near their ...more »

Benchmark Corporate Giants

We need to find ways to reduce beauracracy, flatten the organization eliminating some non-essential leadership positions, and benchmark to learn how some of the corporate giants develop and maintain success. Many successful organizations have moved toward a team approach, whereas teams develop and implement solutions. With the government, we are still very much top-down in our approach which stifles ideas, creativity, ...more »

Fundraising

We do a great job as a country in raising funds for natural disasters and other excellent causes. Our country is in crisis. We have to stop taking this out on government employees. We should all take part in improvement our current situation. Government employees cannot carry the burden of cuts. Why not run a fundraiser and ask for support from those more affluent, e.g., Hollywood celebrities, athletes and corporate ...more »

Streamline business practices

Review business practices and determine ways we can streamline processes. We should have more of a one-stop-shop approach with certain business practices. For example, HR systems, why not have one benefits system that manages benefits across the government, which includes, medical, dental, vision, reimbursement accounts, vacation, sick, etc. We shouldn't have to go into 5 systems to access different aspects of benefits. ...more »

Recognize strong performers

We should reward strong performers not penalize them with pay freezes and making other changes to benefits. Get rid of the poor performers, force retirement, streamline positions so there is no duplication of effort. Save money in other ways (by making sure you have the best, most effective employees to perform the job). You can't make these massive cuts on government employees backs. We can't carry the burden for the ...more »

Clean House of Poor Performers

We need to improve how we manage poor performers. Policies should be in place (just like corporate America structures) to manage poor performers to either work with the employees to bring them to an acceptable working level (in a reasonable timeframe) or be terminated from employment if the employee cannot demonstrate improvement and perform at an acceptable level. Poor performers should not receive any promotions, step ...more »

HELP DESK CONSOLIDATIONS

In my area of Cincinnati we have at least the VA, ATF, DEA, IRS and who knows what else. We have DESKTOP people that sit and do little of nothing from time to time. Others are worked to the bone and leave nearly bleading at times. Why doesnt the FED have standardization of Equipment and Softwares and centralize DESKTOP HELP areas into one central location. There are many benfits to this including scheduling. Replenishments ...more »

Switch to e-statement options for communications

Allow people to opt-in for electronic communication only for various, often routine, communications. These include appointment reminders from the Veterans Administration, Explanation of Benefits from Medicare and Medicaid, various communications to federal employees, etc. It would reduce cost, help the environment, and promote paper reduction.

Streamline SAVE Award

We all have lots of ideas to save money, but we end up with thousands of ideas being posted on SAVE, many of which are essentially the same. The search function doesn't even work all the time. We need to have most ideas be "system posts" (no individual credit) that are broken down by basic popular ideas that people can contribute to (in small pieces) and then vote on each piece. That would make it easier for Administration ...more »
