Large Scale Accounting Entry Deployment Very Few User Licenses

Entering transactions into an accounting database can be as easy as only having Excel. Retrieving data for analysis (querying) can be as easy and as cheap as only having Excel. Accounting departments would purchase software for a low number of users. Production would use Excel to integrate transactions and retrieve data via web. The license for to access an interface isn't needed to enter and retrieve data out of ...more »

Create IT Efficiency Within DoD

Every military Service (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force) maintains redundant information technology (IT) contracts, services and resources from the Headquarters level down through each post, camp, station and base worldwide. Not only is this inefficient, but it also creates security vulnerabilities when the IT policies of each service do not allow sufficient interoperability of those services. Combining the IT enabling ...more »

Incentives to Save

A commom spending issue I have noticed in my work experiences in government is that there is rarely incentive to save money. In fact, when agencies save money, it seems as though they inadvertently get penalized the following fiscal year by having their budgets reduced. I've seen this result in unnecessary spending in order for agencies to use up all of their budgets to justify and sustain their funding, often times ...more »

Automated, Single Entry Timekeeping Across DoD

There are still agencies that have time submitted twice each pay period. The first time is the employee filling out the form (paper or electronic), the next is the timekeeper submitting the time (manually transcribing data into a separate system). This process is repeated in the form of early labor for about half of the pay periods at the end of the month or around major holidays. This means that time is entered four ...more »

Reduce funds type to 1, obligation period to 1.

Currently, there are at least 5 categories and sub-categories of DoD funding: Procurement, Sustainment, Research, etc. Also, each "color" of money has its own, different obligation period. This idea is to consolidate this money-management mayhem. I propose that the Pentagon be instructed to have one "color" of money for example Procurement, with one period of obligation for example 4 years. The savings achieved ...more »

At many DOD locations (Luke AFB AZ and Naval Weapons Joint Base Charleston SC) use golf carts or smaller vehicles for transportation around the military base to accomplish errands, get to job sites and alike. In these locations the “downsizing” of vehicles from full size automobiles to a golf cart or small gas powered “EZ Carts” would not only reduce the gas consumption but also inject funds into a sector of the economy ...more »

Stop Painting Special Aircraft Tail Markings for New Commanders

The US Air Force has an instruction that requires a special shadowed "tailflash" marking on the tail of at least one aircraft, known as the "flagship", on each base. This tailflash is purely cosmetic and does not enhance the mission or corrosion resistance of the aircraft what-so-ever, but it costs the government materials, manpower and aircraft down-time to paint this design. This design is painted whenever a new commander ...more »

Downsize the number of printers and related office supplies

If management personals, analysts, economists, engineers, organizers and etc. have an ipad or Kindle type hardware, they could avoid the use of a printer to print unnecessary number of copies of the documents. They can take their kindle or ipad to the meeting with the document uploaded into it. With Ipad, teleworkers can meet face to face while reviewing the presentations on the same screen. This can only improve ...more »

The majority of DOD facilities require a base decal for vehicles (before 9/11 when vehicles were waved onto military bases without checking ID's.) Now, all vehicles have IDs checked, yet many locations still issue these DOD decals (DOD Form 2220) that should no longer be required, nor should base requirements need a DOD ID card holder to get a vehicle pass. Just reducing issuing access passes to those individuals who ...more »

Consolidation of GPC requirements

Most GSA vendors will offer a discount for purchase of higher quantities of items. If each Division would have their government purchase card holders combine their purchasing requests to get a total requirement for each item (i.e., instead of 10 boxes of pencils being ordered from 4 different GPC holders at 3.00/box = $120, consolidate rqmts so that 1 purchase of 40 boxes at a discounted rate of 2.50/box = $100...a $20 ...more »

DRMO Sales

Defense Reutilization Management Office (DRMO) Is a way for items that are no longer needed\outdated to be reused or sold. I propose breaking up the large case sales into to a individual items and placed on a web-site sales platform the same way amazon etc. operates. Also alot of items that are not fully functioning properly are sometimes sent to be recycled when they can be sold instead. By breaking sales into individual ...more »

VoIP Prep - New Communication Line Installs

This forum doesn't allow attachments to describe, but in short... Currently many bases (to include Minot AFB, currently stationed) have and are installing separate telephone and network cabling. Currently a Wall Jack may state D-12, T-12 for data and telephone. This is a huge waste of money as the telephone cabling will not be needed when VoIP is brought on line. This means that we have cabling being installed today ...more »
