Free Rice and Beans - Eliminate Food Stamps

To eliminate fraud, abuse, and huge overhead costs, provide free rice and beans in grocery stores and eliminate food stamps. Fraud is rampant in the food stamp program, with stamps or debit-type cards being sold for cash. Users buy allowable items and sell them for cash. Farmers could get paid to grow rice and beans instead of being paid not to grow crops. Rice and beans would provide basic nutrition. There would... more »

Simplifying the way Government borrowers money departments

Now the deartment are required to submit borrower authority for each single loan or budget outlay. I think that this should be simplified into giving each department a credit line based on its borrower authorty by congress. For instance if congress approves a budget for 3.1 billion dollars for the Agriculture department but only funds 1 billion of it in actual evenue and the rest is through borrower authority from the... more »

Use the computer programming that is all ready available.

Use Live Meeting for all training. It's simple, it's available and it works. There isn't any reason to travel for face to face meetings. All training can be accomplished through the use of the programming that is currently available on every computer that is used by government employees. Use what we already have. It works.

Reduce Government Contracting

Contractors typically cost significantly more than government employees to do the same type/amount of work. When you take into account the cost/time to put a contract together and administer the contract, it costs approximately 2.5 times as much to contract work out than it does to have the work done by government employees. In addition, technical specialists are no longer spending time to perform in their field of expertise,... more »

Outdoor Light Sensor Switches

I often see our outdoor parking lot and building lights on in the middle of the day - pointless!Several of these are halogen - very high energy usage. It almost seems too ridiculous to state the obvious - only turn on lights when needed. Light activated switches (or possibly timers which might work beter in some situations)would solve this issue quickly. For a one time small investment the benifits would very soon be... more »

Get back to old ways, to help America's Economy

I went around my office and looked at all the equipment at hand. To my surprise, every single item was done in China. This is sad. How can we help our economy, create employments, and get back on track? One way is to go back to do American products. Many years back it was mandated to buy just American products for federal places. For example, we needed to buy American cars. Now a day, you may see a Honda in our... more »

Agency Policy Delivery

Stop sending copies of every notice, directive and newsletter to every employee through the mail - the information is already sent through email and most IICs will print out copies of the relevant information for those who don't have computer access. It could save hundreds of thousands of dollars in supplies, printing costs and postage.

Laboratory Databasing

Our center has built its own electronic database for tracking laboratory results. We have initiated QA/QC procedures to validate the laboratory results and backed it with equipment analytical files for verification during the manuscript review process. We have saved numerous expenses in relation to printed records and purchasing a database and have immediate recall of records back to 2004 when I became an employee of... more »

Simplify cumbersome performance plans

If you were to add up the amount of time employees and management take to comply with the current performance plans it would be in the millions of dollars of staff time. This is time and money that could be spent providing better service to the American people. It is easy to determine if someone is doing their job or not. The pass/fail system is the way to go. The current system simply does not work and eats up tremendous... more »
