Program all vending machines in off hours to turn off lights. Origram all drink vending machines to turn off or at least minimize cooling during off hours.
First - eliminate all account creation for a one time entry to a system.
Second- eliminate a requirement to use the GPO airfare contract for government travel. On average, I could save 1/2 the fare by booking myself.
Increase term of House members so that they are not always concerned with campaigning.
Put the federal budget on the web in a format that allows like/disklike votes and comments on individual line items.
Toner recycling has become a huge business. Office Product stores offer a minimal amount to recycle, but if all agencies had to forward to one location, or had one mailing label and the recycling refund fees could be routed to the general fund, the government could make several hundred thousand to millions of dollars each year. If not, the government should pick a worthwhile charity to donate that money to each year. ...more »
It is proven with statistics that the volume of EEO cases are constantly rising in the federal sector. One of the ways to reduce this is to make it mandatory for managers to mediate with employees if the employee opts to mediate. The agency should also establish an internal group of employees who are not all management officials who will look at each case objectively. Not all issues are grievable, which gives rise ...more »
I'd like to see an increase in positions that allow upward movement in grade (e.g. increase GS-07/09/11 positions). Increasing these opportunities will promote continuity within organizations/offices by retaining employees for a longer period of time. Example: I have been a GS-09 for over a year and only now do I understand the full function of my office. I have spent over a year providing administrative support ...more »
While I agree with budgeting and forecasting to prevent fraud, waste and abuse, I feel that colors of money restrict organizations from purchasing the items that are needed versus the purchase of items to avoid “use or lose” mentality of funds. Each organization should be given a lump sum of money and leadership should be organized in such a way that they are responsible for their own money. Most of us must adhere ...more »
This call for ideas has been a great way for persons of all levels to express their thoughts and opinions. I believe this program to be in place because those of us in the “field” (i.e. away from our central Departments in Washington D.C.), feel the effects of countless initiatives at the lowest level. To really gain insight what programs are/are not working, “undercover bosses” should work side by side at all levels. ...more »
Go back to ONLY two pay systems. The GS (WG) and ES system. Get ride of core comp because this is a wasteful way to manage the tax payer’s money. You need additional people and departments to manager 4 or 5 different pay programs. It is time the Government get back to basic to save money and have all these different pay systems just is not the way to go. People can still get there bonus and pay for performance by the ...more »
Due to the amount of manpower apply and the overwhelming amount of evidence about extended oil changes, we could save a lot of money if we can just extend the oil changes to 4000 miles. There is really no indication that draining oil out of a vehicle at 4000 mile intervals would have a negative effect on the vehicle life. In a recent interview the president of one of the largest quick lube chains, owned by a major ...more »
The government could save money by outsourcing military upgrade training to local companies near their military bases. Currently, the government is using joint base operations to train military on their jobs. As with any training, the costs can skyrocket. The federal government spends money on creating the course, maintaining equipment and facilities. The government also pays for the military member’s plane ticket, gas ...more »
I've been completing a lot of travel vouchers lately, and I think it should be mandatory for travelers to fill-up gas tanks of rental cars before returning them to the airport or rental facility. Gas from the rental facility can cost between $7 and $11 a gallon. There is no suitable reason for this unnecessary expense. This implementation could easily save hundreds of thousands of dollars each fiscal year. It's absurd ...more »
