GSA Leased Vehicles

With the cut-back of personal why should we keep GSA leased vehicles when they are setting for weeks at a time not being used. I know that there are at least four that have not moved for a month here at the Bureau.

Baseline budgets

Eliminate the automatic increase in baseline budgets year over year (freeze them) and you would have incredible savings. For a 4 trillion dollar enconomy this would mean a savings of over 9 trillion dollars over 10 years. The government would not have to eliminate any programs. There would necessarily be adjustments to individual agency budgets, but it would be quick, a whole lot easier than what is transpiring now, and ...more »

Industrial Specialist

As each agency comes to the "End of the Physical Year" they try to spend every penny they can so during the next year they will have close to the same budget or even a higher one. This causes spending for unneeded items. If a "Super Fund" was established and all of the un-used moneies were consolidated in this "Super Fund" then if an agency falls short they could request money from the fund with justification and receive ...more »

Stop allowing illegal aliens to get free medical thru Medicare and Medicaid. If they don’t have a birth certificate and a valid social security card, they don’t receive a free handout. I suggest that all government employees asked to use Friday as the teleworking day, with the exception of public transaction services (e.g. Social Security, Veteran Benefits Service, passport service, Immigration service etc.) Presently practices teleworking of employees on random days does not save energy efficiently. HVAC and lights are on even if few people on the floor are working. If ALL employes telework on Fridays, ...more »

Random Security Clearance Re-Investigations

In conjunction with the update of security clearance information through the e-governance process, turn re-investigations into a random process. If random testing is good enough for drug testing, why not random re-investigations with data bases that are up-to-date and comprehensive checks of police as well as credit bureau data bases.

Improve Productivity and Morale and Save Money by adopting government wide (and contractors too) Cheap and easy alternatives to cumbersome and expensive 800 (866, 877 etc) phone numbers. Trim the Tree

I am not fully aware of the pay status of congressional office staff; if it is fully voluntary this suggestion may be an immaterial suggestion. I suggest the "Congressional Family Tree" for each member of Congress (Senate and House) be analyzed. (Not the political re-election staff-which should be volunteer or paid by the Congressperson, not the government) Multitasking is the present and future for private enterprise, ...more »

Consolidation of all Federal Chief Counsel Offices

Due to the nature of their work, Chief Counsel offices operate and expend funds as if they were a separate agency from their Bureaus/ Offices. Consolidating them would mean consolidating expenses and needs. There would be significant cost savings in IT epuipment purchase costs and maintenance costs, costs of telephone sytems and maintenance. This would improve work performance as the leadership and employees could share ...more »

Translation & Interpretation of Foreing Languages. --- We have spent millions of dollars in paying private companies to translate foreign documents, or, to serve as interpreters for our clientele. We could have save all of these expenses by: (1) implementing a plan to use our in-house bilingual employees; (2) establish a procedure to enforce the above plan within each federal agency. All bi-lingual employees ...more »

PRINTER INK

Along with the effort to go paperless, government offices could switch from their current font to Century Gothic, which can save as much as 30% on printer ink.
