Put Solar on All Government Roofs when built or repaired

Roofing Projects for new government buildings and for Repairing existing government buildings is expensive, but it would Save a lot of money over time if we added Solar Panels at the same time as roof work is being contracted. The installation costs would be reduced greatly and the electrical savings would more than make up for the smaller construction cost over time and would lower our dependence on energy. It would ...more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing) We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay ...more »

Less frequent replacement of plastic bags in trash cans

I have noticed that when the janitors come around to empty people's trash cans (which typically occurs once or twice a day), they often take out the plastic bag with the trash in it and put a new bag on the trash can. This is wasteful both with regard to the cost of the plastic bags and the external cost to the environment. Most of the time it would be perfectly acceptable for the janitors to simply dump out the contents ...more »

Turn off computer monitors at night.

Turn off computer monitors at night. Computer monitors can always be turned off at night. Computer upgrades can occur with monitor screens switched off. Leaving computer monitors on at all times is a huge waste of energy and dollars. It is completely unneccessary!! Let's save those dollars! Let's save that energy! It will also cut our greenhouse gas emissions!

Simple Solar Idea for Military Installations

Cover the roofs of large buildings on military installations with solar panels. The enormous square footage of these roofs presents an "already-in-place" platform for solar energy generation. No additional space would be required for solar farms, wind turbines (which would be impractical due to the danger posed to flight operations), etc. Just use the space we already have. This would drastically reduce the strain ...more »

Stop Distributing Paper Pay Stubs and Paper W-2s to Employees

In my office, a huge stack of paper pay stubs come in every 2 weeks. With the availability of the myPay web site, we should not still be distributing paper pay stubs.

The myPay web site also maintains the W-2s. There is no use in mailing out these forms each year, with the printing and shipping costs.

The Federal Government would save millions of dollars if paper pay stubs and w-2s were discontinued.

Put a fork in Styrofoam... it's done! Go Green and Save Money!!!

In our canteen, we are using Styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. If this is true for the canteens throughout the country, then this needs to be fixed. The amount of trash this creates just from one day of lunch is enormous. That’s not very green! Why can't we use the trays similar to the ones we used in high school and elementary school. The hard plastic reusable trays. They would only require a high heat wash like ...more »

Skill Database for Agencies

My idea is to create an Government skill and/or Project database for use for internal agencey projects. What problem are you trying to solve? At any given moment each agency has over a hundred individual internal projects going on. To get these completed in most cases offices solely use talent within their office. I propose that we create either a talent pool database that associates skills with each divisions employee ...more »
