Give Temporary Proof of a Replacement SSN Card on the Internet

Social Security should give the American public the ability to request a replacement SSN card on the Internet and print temporary proof of a SSN while they wait for the card to arrive in the mail. Social Security can charge a nominal fee verifying credit card address to match the mailing address of the applicant and to help with proving identity. Social Security processes over 8 million replacement card requests in ...more »

Cell Free Zones Signsand check cell phone locations

One of the major problems facing everyone in government is the use of new technology including cell phones by our customers which enable people to record conversations and take pictures. One of the people I interviewed ended up on You Tube with someone in the waiting area taking a video of her altercation with our security guard. Besides the regular signage my idea is to have a sign saying cell phone free zone--check ...more »

Health Benefits virtual site

One of the real problems all federal workers have is with open season for benefits. Piles of brochures appear all the time and sometimes they are not distirbuted to employees.\ My idea is to have a virtual web site by area for open season.listing programs or plans avaiable and enabling employes to click on the plan to get more information. This can save time for employees and at the same time help enable them to spend ...more »

Public Personal Computer reminders

We are told as employees of SSA to remind people about reporting wages via the phone etc. One of our major concerns is with overpayments and paying people properly. My idea is to put reminders on the computers of people who make wage reports online to remind them at the beginning of each month to report their wages. This effort to both workers and deemes would help reduce SSI overpayments

REp Payee signs and language booklets/pamphlet

Often we have problems when people with rep payees come into office and demand money. My idea is to have signs saying "If you have a rep payee for you, the payee needs to come in for you." Pamphlet-- When you have a representative payee that person will receive benefits. The person is to disribute money to you on a regular basis not simply give you the money. A lot of times people need help when they first start getting ...more »

Landscaping at SSA

There is an abundance of funds wasted on landscaping across the Agency and especially at the Headquarters campus. If there is grass to cut then fine but there is no need to trim stand-alone bushes/trees that can grow up without interfering with anything. There is no need to seasonaly mulch large swaths of ground and plant annual flowers seasonally. Decorations of rocks or perennial plants that are maintenance free is ...more »

Workers Comp notice and notification

A lot of people I know file a CA-l traumatic injury workers comp case and then get confused after the 45 days. My idea is to have a reminder letting people know that after the 40th day if they are still unable to work they have to submit a ca-2 and CA-7 to avoid non-interruption of benefits.

This will let avoid additional confusion that often occurs and fewer calls to personnel officesl

On Line filing federal workers comp program oWCP

So many things are online today. You can file an OSHA complaint a NIOSH request for health hazard evaluation on line, applications for Social Security benefits on line but not workers compensation. Having the FECA program with an online capabiilty will streamline the operation and put on a path similar to that of other programs. Even OPM seems to be moving in that direction. It can save time as well particularly since ...more »

Veterans On Line page and links

Veterans come in all ages and are eligible for a variety of benefits. A problem is that governmental pages do not link from one site to another. People getting VA benefits may be eligible to file for Social Security benefits which have among other things special wounded warrior programs to speed up processing of benefits for disability and disabled veterans. My idea is to have a page that provides links to other federal ...more »

Success stories for disabled people working

Social Security has various work incentive programs to encourage people to work. These include ticket to work, 1619 A and B as well as blind work incentives. Dry discussions of such programs are not always helpful. My idea is to have real life examples such as pictures of individuals who are disabled and working such as a disabled individual with his service dog, a hearing impaired person working for SSA as well as other ...more »

Post Emergency Phone #s at Elevator & Stairwell entrances

The President should require that in all Federally occupied buildings, Emergency Phone #s should be prominently displayed at all elevator & stairwell entrances. This should include Fire/ Police/ Medical/ Security & Terror/ contacts. Individuals entering Federal buildings would become visually familiar with the standardized location of these numbers for immediate access in an emergency. This is crucial to ensure prompt ...more »

CLOSE WRITING UNITS

The quality of the decision writing in the writing units has recently been sub-par. If these uits were closed, and the decision writers in the ODAR Offices upgraded to Senior Attornies with decision making power, the backlog currently experienced would be reduced, the quality of the writing would be above par, causing less remands, and the decion makers would be happy.

ID Cards for opening small government offices

Not all government offices are large. Many social security offices are small and in leased space. Bargaining unit members like myself even though we have id cards have to wait outside the office until management shows up to open for us. Sometimes we have waited up to one hour outside for them to open up. They get paid for their time as managers when they sign in. However, those of us who wait for them are paid for when ...more »

national data base of governmental threats/interchange

One of the really great tragedies for my agency was the Oklahoma City bombing when there was anger at one agency but people in SSA where I work were killed and injured. We have situations as well with overall threats including an individual named Cloud who sent suspect mail to government offices including mine. My idea is to have a national data base of incidents and threats coordianted by the federal protective service ...more »

Suspect Mail Signs and indicators at all mail rooms

Government facilities vary in size. Some have large mail rooms which include X-ray machines. some are small and may just have a mail table. In addition the lack of clerical workers could result in people such as senior volunteers doing incoming and outgoing mail. There have been a number of threats with suspect packages including a number involving government offices including my own which had 2 incidents. My idea to ...more »
