Stop Monetary SSI Benefits to Children

The Social Security Handbook says, “The basic purpose of SSI is to assure a limited level of income to people who are aged, blind, or disabled, and have limited income and resources.” Although many children suffer from significant childhood illnesses or impairments, administering monetary benefits to a child who has not reached the legal working age in an effort to “supplement” his/her household income seems illogical. ...more »

Instead of hiring costly contractors, hire competent staff

We spend millions in contractors because our current staff is not knowledgeable or does not have the expertise to handle the work. Instead of paying an agency 2-3 times what a typical employee would cost, it would be significantly more efficient to hire people that can do the type of work. Unfortunately staff gets continually promoted that cannot do work at a higher level. Do secretaries in the private sector get promoted ...more »

Mandatory Drug Testing for all Government Funded Assistance

I see that a lot of recipients of welfare and SSI have been treated for illicit drug use. I believe that if an individual receives any government funded benefit through welfare or SSI, they should take a mandatory drug test quarterly if monthly is not realistic. If it is dirty, take the benefit away. We would save MILLIONS.

Ask callers if we can send documents/brochures electronically

When we receive calls via the toll free number or at an SSA office, we send out a paper letter, reminding them of their appointment time if they made an appointment. In other instances, we send out big paper booklets providing information with close out letters. Why not ask the caller to provide an email address as an alternative, and they can receive the information via email instead? We can save on mailing costs and ...more »

Eliminate Paper Towels

Simple idea but this would save millions wasted a year considering we have 2 million federal employees. Paper towels have to be purchased, shipped, stored and disposed of. This would make government wide more eco friendly by saving trees and eliminating the amount of waste we produce. The air dryers (without heat) are a very cost effective and would pay for themselves quickly.

Lower the AC!

Lower the air conditioning (increase the temperature) in federal buildings by two or three degrees. Not only will this lower AC costs, but it will keep employees from plugging in space heaters and electric blankets to stay warm.

Save America by putting a cap on families that receive SSI

Families that receive SSI are continuously growing, we despirately need to cap the amount one family can receive. We need to be fair, the working class earn credits and have a family max determined by their credits earned. Yet we have a population of people who have given up and are not accountable to even try to support their families. We need to ween these families off SSI. There are some who need it but my gosh there ...more »

Restructure/Eliminate SSI benefits for children with ADHD, ADD

I know something like this was already submitted, and I voted on them, but when I came across these figures on our own website, I had to make another submission about this topic, hoping our Government will get the hint and really look into this. First, here is the link: http://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/statcomps/ssi_monthly/2011-06/table03.html This chart shows the number of SSI checks distributed in one month. Take a ...more »

Stop multiple SSI checks for children in same household

There are way too many families, mostly single parent, receiving multiple SSI checks for kids in the same household. It is not uncommon to take claims for 2 or 3 kids in the same family for things such as ADHD. Chances are one or two get approved, they live in HUD housing and the mother has no reason to seek employment or financial independence from the Government. I have personally seen records where as many as 6 kids ...more »

Allow Permanant Part-Time Schedules for Career Employees

There should be an option for permanant career employees to work part-time. (Perhaps 4 out of 5 days a week.) The employee could pay out a little more in insurance, etc. but, would have a more family-friendly manageable schedule. Many professional offices have Monday-Friday hours only. For some employees the higher cost of insurance, etc. may outweigh the burden of scheduling leave and juggling family responsibilities ...more »

Title II Title 16 eliminate inmates ability to file

I truely believe that we should not allow criminals the right to file while they are incarcerated. This clogs up our system by having to cancel hearings because the inmate is transfered to another state, or we have to do phone hearings while they are incarcerated and send huge paper cases to the correctional facility, which is costing the jail systems as well as the SSA system. Most of the claims are frivilous and are ...more »
