No Up-Front Cost Energy Saving

Set up financing so that the investments in energy-saving equipment and other energy efficiency upgrades can be done without any initial cost. With a financing mechanism in place, a project that might cost $10 million up front and save $1.5 million per year, could now be done with no up-front cost. The $10 million would be borrowed and, if paid back over 15 years, it would cost less than $80,000 per year. So, rather... more »

Establish a "Dollar a Day" Initiative, save $500,000,000 / year

Introduce a Dollar a Day program that encourages federal employees to find away to save just one extra dollar a day. By looking at the small things we can often better see the big ones. Each employee would be asked to save $260 per year some how within their normal operations. Require annual submission of total savings efforts by federal facility and recognize those who perform best. The truth is that if each of the... more »

Change Citizenship Process

I believe many of the illegals here want to make an honest living and take care of their families. However, it is my understanding that it is a very long process (more than a decade) to become a citizen. Without being a citizen (or having the money to apply) they cannot work, which means they don't pay taxes. It also means that they turn to a life of crime to make ends meet. This country was built on people immigrating... more »

Mr. President, it is time to trim the branches

Good day Mr. President, chances are you probably won't see this entry. I was rocking my daughter to sleep and was thinking about her future and this great country. She isn't quite old enough to talk yet, but says a few words. I wondered what she would tell the President of the US if she could and understood. Who knows maybe someday she might. She would probably tell you we are a family of immigrants. My family immigrated... more »

SAVE Award - Combine like ideas

Similar ideas should be combined so that their power is not diluted by votes distributed across the ideas. For example, Budget Giveback is essentially the same as Stop "Spend or Lose" Budgets. This applies to the many energy efficiency/sustainability ideas and others.

United Nations financing

Currently, the U.S. (i.e. taxpayer) pays approx. 22% of the budget for the United Nations (U.N.) although they are allowed only one vote as with the other voting members. We should either get out of the U.N. or finance it at the minimum level allowed. Our current contribution is close to .5 billion dollars.

Require Feedback from All Agencies on Status of SAVE Suggestions

Require all agencies to provide periodic (quarterly) feedback on the status of all suggestions related to their agency. Those suggestions being implemented with est savings, those being studied further, those not being implemented (and why). Publish on this website. This feedback is something that has been sorely lacking from the program. Nothing is heard on any of the suggestions other than the top ones. We need... more »

SAVE Idea Voting

Ensure that the "voting" for SAVE ideas is conducted equitably and fair. For example, ensure that submitters can not vote for themselves, that votes can not be placed multiple times by the same individual, and that special-interest groups (that may have extensive resources and therefore many "voters") can not vote-out ideas that they are opposed to. Only this way will even the most "out of the box" ideas be given fair... more »

Reduced Travel Expenses

Reduce government travel expenses, employee time, fuel consumption, and air emissions by finally establishing a nationwide high-speed surface transportation system. Such a system would also relieve the current traffic burden on both runways and highways, and can offer comparable door-to-door travel times particularly for regional service. Workforce productivity would increase, thereby helping to improve GDP and the overall... more »

Make SAVE Award website more easy-to-use

The SAVE Award is a great idea; unfortunately, the website gets completely bogged down with the sheer number of ideas being submitted (many duplicative or simply impossible on their face). I'd suggest implementing some sort of moderation/oversight process so that certain ideas (i.e. "eliminate the Dept of Education" or "Eliminate the Dept of Veterans Affairs") are removed from the site. These ideas are too far-fetched... more »

The United States Government is the Worlds Largest Non Profit

Run it like one. We're not always busy. We're here when you need us... Pay us less. Train us to do better jobs, pay for our education, and then let us rejoin the private sector before we get a pension. Entry level US Government jobs, should be treated like the Millitary, come here, get skills, and then go do useful work. Cut management by at least 50%, it's almost all useless bureaucrats anyway. Use that money... more »

Consolidate Similar Suggestions and Give Credit as Appropriate

There are numerous similar suggestions on the website. Recommend they be consolidated and as long as they are not an exact copy of someone else's both individuals should receive appropriate credit or the earliest one gets the credit. The problem is that the duplicates are watering down the voting. Three similar suggestions may have 15, 8, and 10 votes - where if they were one it would have 33 votes. Future events... more »

The President's SAVE Award

Why did the federal government waste money on a project that inherently wastes more money by getting federal employees to stop working for a while and type something in this little box that will never be seen by anyone with the power to actually make any of the changes suggested?
