GSA Fleet Vehicles

The accounting and replacement cycles are skewed with the end users operation cycles which is problimatic for accounting personel, operations personnel and construction projects.. The 'S' in GSA should return back to meaning SERVICES and work with the agencies it provides to not the other way around. It causes dificulties with operations that must deal with confining winter weather conditions and differing operational... more »

Three Offices consolidation into one.

Presently, there are three different administrative offices, Milwaukee, WI, Jackson, Mississippi, Spring Field , VA. Surface ownership is only 33, 000 acres under all thethree offices. I suggest consolidating all three office into one central place will save millions of dollars each year. by reducing overhead, duplicate staff and office space.

Face the music

Reactivate the "Fiddlin' Foresters"! If there's anything we need more of in these depressing times, it's a little music. To single out a single Web site as a "poster child" example of government waste not only was demoralizing, it was simply wrong. Let's focus on the big issues. The little ones will take care of themselves.

Auditor

I believe we can automate and centralize the government's process of "negotitating" indirect cost rate agreements with state, local & tribal governments and for-profit/non-profit organizations. The government does not need highly compensated auditors to perform this function and if the process can be integrated into an electronic environment, this would elimate the cost of office space, utilities and supplies (which for... more »

Reducing carbon footprints by reducing highway driving speeds

Most automobiles will achieve a 15% improvement in mileage at 60 mph versus 70 mph due to substantial increases in wind resistance at higher speeds. Substantial reductions in carbon footprints can be attained by simply asking all federal employees to do their share by maintaining interstate highway speeds at 60 mph rather than pushing the posted speed limits. I have adopted this philosophy in both my personal travel... more »

Meaningful Meetings

Create a SOP where meeting members are given a pre meeting agenda with a response process. Screen and refine the agenda with a target purpose and quantifiable results (reportable and accountable outcome) and check to see that the meeting is truly necessary; Then and only then hold the meeting. Set metrics that declare a meeting needed or not (most items can be resolved without a meeting). Find ways to eliminate physical... more »

Put NPS monitoring back in the ONPS budget and not on soft money

NPS monitoring of resources is required to meet the mission of NPS and those NPS units whose mission is to protect, converse, and restore natural resources. However, the ONPS budgets of many parks have removed monitoring as they have found sources of funding that are more direct from Congress can be in the short term easier to get. It is easier because these monitoring programs do not need to be competed with the regional... more »

CLOSE OFFICE AND RELOCATE IN ALBUQUERQUE

The Dept of Interior should relocate the Office of Information Resources Management and Division of Accounting Management from Reston, Virginia to Albuquerque, NM because the clients are all centeralized in that location. The cost should be a saving to the Department of Interior.

Utilize our colleges for interns to work for us

I went to school at U of H in Houston. As a student, I had to complete several interships at local agencies. Not only is it good experience for the intern, but the company (SSA) doesn't have to pay out any salaries or benefits. Utilizing college level interns would not only free up CR's and SR's to do more complex duties, but the agency would save on hiring and long periods of training for new employees. How to utilize... more »

Energy efficiency

Save money and improve efficiency of government spending by improving the energy efficiency of federal government buildings and leased federal properties. Not only does this save on spending to run and operate federal offices and other buildings, but it sets the appropriate example for decreasing the environmental footprint by federal agencies. There are numerous things that can be implemented, but one easy one is to... more »

Energy Savings

When employees leave for the evening or weekend, I believe it would be a cost savings to government if everyone turned off their task lighting.

Reduce Paper Files

We should reduce paper files in training and awards especially if these files are available through a learning management system and a personnel actions system.
