Trash

I work in housekeeping and every week there are old pictures, fans, old chairs, tables ect. ect. I told to put in the trash. There are nothing wrong with these item, they have been replaced by new item. VA Police say you can't take them home, they have to go in the dumpster. I think one a month or maybe once every three months, the VA's across the nation could have like a "Flee Market" sale of these item instead of just... more »

Stop Distributing Paper Pay Stubs and Paper W-2s to Employees

In my office, a huge stack of paper pay stubs come in every 2 weeks. With the availability of the myPay web site, we should not still be distributing paper pay stubs.

The myPay web site also maintains the W-2s. There is no use in mailing out these forms each year, with the printing and shipping costs.

The Federal Government would save millions of dollars if paper pay stubs and w-2s were discontinued.

Annual earnings limit for military disability pay

I know several people who are receiving 20% - 100% disability pay from the VA and earning in excess of $60k/year. Most disability programs specify that disability is "the inability to work." If you are earning big bucks in a government job, (that you got preference for being a veteran so therefore were hired over others perhaps more qualified), you should not be double dipping disability pay and salary. Disability pay... more »

Stop Hiring to Fill Quotas

Please start hiring qualified staff and stop filling quotas. We have staff that cannot read or write and most cannot compose a proper sentence - Not to mention spelling. When you hire unqualified staff, it reflects on the entire organization. Require the Civil Service Test and a typing test again. It is ridiculous the number of staff that the Federal Government hires that are unqualified. No wonder we... more »

Put a fork in Styrofoam... it's done! Go Green and Save Money!!!

In our canteen, we are using Styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. If this is true for the canteens throughout the country, then this needs to be fixed. The amount of trash this creates just from one day of lunch is enormous. That’s not very green! Why can't we use the trays similar to the ones we used in high school and elementary school. The hard plastic reusable trays. They would only require a high heat wash like... more »

Put the Federal Inmates to Work!

Put all of the Federal Inmates out on the Interstate Highways picking up trash, mowing and weed wacking . Put the ball and chain on them if they cannot be trusted not to run. The inmates needs to have to perform hard labor time so that maybe they will think twice next time about doing the crime. This is a win-win for everyone... The Interstate Highways will be beautiful again and the tax payer will save the... more »

Federal Employees Should Work From Home

There has been much research done on employees working from home. More work is accomplished by employees working from home. They don't want the privelage takin away so they work harder and usually put in more time. Also, makes the employee have less stress of trying to get to work.

Regional "Goodwill" Centers - Equipment, Inventory, Buildings

One agency's trash is another agency's treasure. Create/improve regional programs responsible for (1) removing, re-purposing, or donating unneeded or excess equipment and inventory (2) and increase visibility of available vacant federal buildings and land. Here’s an example: The Department of Veterans Affairs has a vast inventory of underutilized and vacant property, including roughly 7.5 million square feet of vacant... more »

Reduce call ins (sick leave)

Recieve pay for not calling in. For example, you must have 300 hours of SL on the books. Once you have 300 hours you may choose to get paid your SL if you do not call in the previous month....Mr. X has 300 hours of SL on the books. He does not call in sick during the month of July. The first pay period of August, Mr. X will receive an extra 8 hours of pay. His SL balance stays at 300. (we earn 4 hours of SL per pay... more »

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later. We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing. We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government.... more »

Issue laptops instead of desktop computers

Instead of purchasing desktop computers and then additionally issuing laptop computers, make the use of laptops as a primary computer the standard. If every employee had a laptop that latched into a port at their desk, it would make it much easier for employees to have telework capabilities because they could just take their workstation home. Having a port at the desk would allow employees to use a standard-sized monitor... more »

Paperless Forms and Electronic Signatures - We Have the Solution

Forms, forms, forms, forms. The government loves them. By the end of my work week I've filled out at least one form, but sometimes as many as 10. They are all required to be printed and signed. What a waste...not only in paper and time, but also in rework when forms are lost, scanning, and interruptions for those who must physically sign. Agencies already have the software needed to do this electronically with minimal... more »
