Information Resources Centers

Almost all first world, and many second world, citizens have access to the internet. In those areas, the Information Resource Centers (IRC) in Embassies are greatly underuntilized and a waste of space, personnel, and other resources.

I suggest we remove the IRC from these locations and either save money, or use that money in another area.

Intersection cameras

The city spent all this money installing cameras on some intersections to catch people going through red lights. Well most of them don't work correctly. Instead of just letting them sit there, fix them so the city/state can start collecting on fines from those.

Electronic Submission of Revocation Requests

Currently, when the Department of State (DOS) desires to request the revocation of a visa petition, visa Posts abroad prepare and mail a revocation request letter to the appropriate DOS facility (the National Visa Center, for immigrant petitions, or the Kentucky Consular Center, for nonimmigrant petitions). The visa centers then re-mail the revocation request letters to the appropriate corresponding U.S. Citizenship ...more »

Protect PII and reduce paper

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper that is used annually, and protect our customer's Personally Identifiable Information, I would propose that we limit what is printed in conjuction with applications. For example, the databases that are used internally in the application process are available to most all Passport employees. There is no real need to print the information when referring these cases to other departments ...more »

Close most American Embassies

4.Close most American Embassies.

a.The purpose of an Embassy is to represent the country overseas because slow communications prevented rapid information response from the government.

i.The invention of the telephone, fax and internet made embassies obsolete.

ii.A handful of regional embassies can have Visa’s and other documents.

Converting OMS positions to EFM positions at embassies.

State could eliminate at least one OMS position at each embassy and create the position for EFMS. While State would still pay salary, the department would save on the cost of a residence, transportation of HHE and UAB, travel to post, utilities and possibly R&R, post differential and SND costs. This would also address a critical morale issue of insufficient job opportunities at post for spouses.

Individual "sharing" of excess budget at the end of a FY

There is currently no real "personal" incentive for individuals in US government organizations to save money from their annual FY budgets (other than personal pride and/or as a US taxpayer). If each individual in an organization was permitted to "share" in some pre-determined percentage of any excess remaining funds from their organization's FY budget, each individual would have a vested interest in looking for cost ...more »

Reward savings on utility bills

The US Govt must give departments the discretion and ability to reward savings by department employees. The US State Department's greening efforts have produced real cost savings around the world with the possibility for more. However, these efforts often require behavioral change, which is very difficult to achieve when there is no incentive at all for the employee to do so. For example, if departments are able to save ...more »
