Work for Welfare

Make people collecting welfare report to work. Be it removing graffiti, picking weeds, removing pet waste from parks, or picking up litter, make these people work. Watch as the number of people on welfare drops. Require drug testing and watch it drop further.

Standardize all Federal Benefits for Congress and other

All benefits provided by the federal governement to its employees should be provided to congress. All benefits provided to congress should be provided to federal employees who are not a part of congress. It is quite simple - all federal employees adhere to the same rules and benefits regardless of position level or longevity of service.

Support Telework

Telework is championed as a winning solution to improving morale and efficiency in the government work place --employers benefit from more efficient use of time by employees, decreased costs of facilites, and an incentive to recruit and retain employees who might be otherwise tempted to work for the private sector; employees benefit by having an easier commute, decreased personal commuting costs, and less time in traffic ...more »

Remote conference attendance, eliminate travel costs

A number of employees are sent around the globe to attend topic-specific conferences, meetings, etc. I propose we invest in partnering with these major conferences to implement video conferencing, interactive sessions, etc. Many organizations have adopted virtual meetings such as the distance education institutions allowing them to conduct classes with students around the globe. It would greatly save the government ...more »

Criminalize sale of food stamps

There are various examples of individuals taking the food stamps and selling them at 1/2 the value (or less), in order for them to use the cash for other uses. There should also be an audit system to ensure people are spending this given resource properly. Currently there is no way to audit spending. I have been asked several times in Baltimore city grocery stores by people to buy food stamps, or they offer to pay for ...more »

Limit Purchase of Cell Phones/Blackberries

Limit the purchase of blackberries and cell phones to only those who absolutely need them. These cell phone plans and data plans (especially now that several carriers are eliminating the unlimited data plan) are quite expensive and these costs can add up. Not everyone is in absolute requirement of a blackberry device. Additionally there is no monetary consequence if a blackberry is repeatedly lost or broken. Establishment ...more »

Hold Congress Accountable for their Inaction

Stop extending deadlines. There is a reason they are called deadlines. Enforce them. Eliminate this political partisan back and forth. If congress doesn't deliver, withhold their pay or implement some other consequence for not doing their job. We all must come together for the greater good of our country and not for the greater good of each Congressman.

Rein In Runaway On-line Mandatory Trainings

Every new mandatory training further saps the workforce productivity, and indiscriminately wastes more and more total effort. It is far too easy to make a training "mandatory," and too tempting by their creators to make them overly burdensome. For several years now, annual IT security training for anyone with a computer in HHS has required completion of 15 individual modules. There have been mandatory trainings in 508 ...more »

Reform the Combined Federal Campaign: eliminate paper waste

Reform the Combined Federal Campaign: eliminate paper waste and tremendous cost of personnel oversight by conducting the campaign across the federal government using solely the e-giving system. Donors could search charities online and complete electronic pledge forms, thereby eliminating the costs associated with printing thousands of each. This would also drastically reduce time and costs associated with preparing ...more »
