Instead of paying the entire costs for relocation, offer new hires a small lump sum and let them pay for the expenses of moving themselves, if they are entitled to relocation expenses. The amount paid for the movers and packers could easily exceed the value of the furniture and appliances being moved.
Eliminate foreign aid spending (except for Emergency assistance due to disasters) immediately. Approximately 150 out of the 190 or so nations on this planet are supported by the US taxpayer. Share printers to save money on the printers and the cartridges, and use less energy.
Replace all lighting iwth LED lights where appropriate for the reduction of energy costs. Replacing incandescent bulbs with T4 lighting did not gain the level of savings required to equal the escalating cost of energy. The costs of the LED is going down, and this would result in a net decrease of energy use to the grid vice "maintaining" and slowing down the growth of power plants.
We are an industrial NATION!! Let's end the denial stage and start acting like it! There is a way to be an industrial leader and still be environmentally smart about it! Each year in October a private company sponsors a "Leadership Conference" at Amelia Island. At the swanky resort. It is for the Environmental Management program at DOE. It costs the Environmental Management office a ton of money to send representatives to it. It is pretty much a boon-doggle. And the private company makes a good bunch of change from hosting it. When Federal employees transfer to other agencies within the Federal government, why can't their HSPD12 badge be updated to reflect their new agency the day they report to their new job by the security office in their new agency instead of having to send Federal employees to get another set of fingerprints/pictures and other badge/security related information---can't agencies share this type of information and make the... more »

Unplug mobile chargers when not in use. Only 5% of the power drawn by a mobile phone charger is used to charge the phone. The rest is wasted when it is left plugged in.

USG contributions to employee health insurance costs are massive and could be reduced by having a healthier workforce. A healthier workforce would mean lower premiums and USG contributions.
